Hello. I have a problem with the Asus K52J laptop. When installing the update, the computer was turned off without completing the upgrade process. Now there is nothing on the screen except the mouse pointer after the system has been loaded. The combination Ctrl + Alt + Del does not work the start window (Windows + R) does not open. Is there still the option to save this system or is there only a format?

Try By pressing the F8 key during the start, if it turns on, you should restore the system to its initial state. This is a system recovery option and there are some system repair solutions out there, the data can be lost.

I managed to get to this menu after 2-3 computer shutdowns when loading (Windows logo). Unfortunately, there are no restore points. The "Restore previous build" option does not work. "Repair during startup" also does not work.

I will add that the computer loses its image after connecting the power supply. This happens only on this screen with the mouse. This is probably caused by drivers. From what I remember, there were some problems with this graphics on Windows 10.

So I'm left with CMD or reset the system to its initial state. Can you do something with CMD?

In emergency mode is exactly the same, except that the picture does not disappear after connecting the power supply.

With CMD, you can execute the command "sfc scannow" this command works in administrator mode. This is a command to check and scan system files and possibly repair from the image if one exists.

I also noticed that on this black screen with the cursor I can fire the narrator through the combination of the keys "Windows logo + Ctrl + Enter". And nothing else.

And you tried clean installations because if you have a license number, I do not see a problem, you can also do updates from the installation media. But make sure you have your data secured beforehand. As I wrote earlier from Key F8 and you have to start the text mode (command line) and open the notebook and there you can copy some data. it takes a while, but you can always do something. I do not propose a DISM program which is in win 10, because there you can restore the system from the image, but the syntax is a bit complicated. This is described on the MS website

It will be easiest to install the data on a pendrive of linux light, eg linux mint, using the yumi program.
As for windows, the best way was always "Restore the previous build", but if it does not work then try to get to the command line and create a new user profile

    net user / add username
    net localgroup administrators username
if the second command pops up that the group does not exist, instead of administrators, type Administrators

After scanning with the SFC command, you received a reply that the disk created virtually by the installer 10 was scanned, where the configuration files for the installation process are installed and nothing more. All that remains is to restore from the image or clean the installation

Perhaps it would be possible, but eventually I copied the data and made a format. I installed Windows 7 because under W10 there are no drivers for this laptop and not everything worked always. For example, there were backlight problems.

It probably does not have much to do with drivers?

Topic summary

The Asus K52J laptop encountered issues following an interrupted Windows 10 update, resulting in a black screen with only a mouse pointer visible. Users suggested various recovery options, including accessing emergency mode and using the F8 key to restore the system. However, the original poster reported no available restore points and failed recovery attempts. Commands such as "sfc /scannow" were recommended to check system files, but ultimately, the user resorted to formatting the laptop and installing Windows 7 due to driver compatibility issues with Windows 10. Alternative solutions included using Linux for data recovery and creating a new user profile via command line.
