A week ago, we set up 300Mbps fiber optic internet from a local operator at home. We got a modem from them, to which, at my request, I temporarily connected my old router (TP-LINK TD-W8901G). Directly from the modem, my computer reached the speed guaranteed in the contract, and through the router it was: 100Mbps via cable and up to 30Mbps via WiFi. To fully use the high-speed connection I bought a router ASUS RT-AC1200 . The problem is that I still only have max. 100Mbps via cable and 30Mbps via WiFi. Is it normal? Is it possible to use the full internet speed instead of 1/3? Because if not, then I have no sense invested in this equipment ..? In addition, the new router has not somehow increased the coverage and downstairs (I have a router on the floor) still breaking the WiFi connection.

I am asking for some hint and dispelling doubts, because I am surprised that in theory the better equipment gives me comparable results, but maybe it is a matter of settings, or maybe it should be?

This router has WAN / LAN ports only 100 Mb - unfortunately it will not be faster than 100 Mb.
You need to buy a router with 1 Gb WAN / LAN ports.

Every modern router behaves the same - the 100 mW radio power standard for the 2.4 GHz band.

Thank you very much for your answer. In fact, these are the ports! But this is probably a bit of a fooling customers who do not know each other very much, since the packaging is screaming a large 1200Mbps inscription. Another thing is that I was recommended to him in RTV euro AGD and Media Expert, although I told you how fast I have internet. Fortunately, apparently I can return!
In that case, do I understand correctly that the ASUS RT-AC1200G + will work for me? But look for something else?

But they do not state there what it results from and how it was obtained.

The seller's job is to sell, not advise (sorry, but that's the reality).

The seller is not obliged to take back the goods purchased in the stationary store, MOZE! accept him, but no law will compel him to do so.
I hope you have received such assurance that the seller will accept it.

This router did not have the best reviews at one time - I cannot assure you that this has changed for the better now.
I would choose the Asus RT-AC58U - it used to have very favorable opinions.

However, please remember, no one can guarantee that the router will "cover" 2 floors for 100% coverage in every corner.
The current wifi radio power 100 mW for 2.4 GHz and 200 mW for 5 GHz absolutely does not give such certainty and it may be necessary to use a local AP with a cable connection with a new router on the second floor.
Please remember to upgrade your newly purchased router with the latest software available for it from the manufacturer's website.

Well, of course not, that's why I wrote that a little and do not know each other ;)

I know that there is no legal obligation, but it was written next to the product and confirmed by the seller.

I understand that this coverage is a difficult topic, because since I have internet at home we have not solved this problem. Asking if I would like the ASUS RT-AC1200G + model, I meant more if it didn't slow down the Internet, like this one and at least after the cable I will have about 300Mbps :)

In terms of coverage, if you could tell me what you think about something like a repeater to improve the internet downstairs? AP would certainly be useful to us, this subject is only a bit bigger for me. Is it even worth trying with a wireless amplifier? If not, then I need to talk to my father once again about laying the cable down.

Anyway, thank you very much, the Lord has cleared up a lot for me in this matter. Until now, I would be thinking about why the router is slowing my internet down and I probably didn't think that besides the speed out of the box there is also the speed of ports, which is much more important! :P

As I have already mentioned, taking into account the current regulations and radio power in a given wifi band, you cannot do it with one device - the radio power is too low to break through all the walls, ceiling / floor.

The price of my proposal with a new router is similar (maybe a bit higher) than your suggestion - please do not save on the router and choose my proposal.

    It's a very BAD idea - why ?:
    - the wifi network will work slower by half (the radio in such amplifiers is a radio with one radio path - either receives or transmits the signal and this generates losses and errors in transmission),
    - the floor below will be too weak to amplify it and pass it on with the repeater.
    - frequent disconnection and problems in communication and maintenance of such a connection,
    - and the impact of the radio field on the human body (more and more wifi networks everywhere and it is not worth adding another problem).

If you can't lay the RJ45 cable, you can think of a PLC (internet via an electrical socket) - you don't have to lay a twisted pair, you buy one such set (2 pieces of PLC included) such a PLC and a local additional AP where needed.

Unfortunately, but the matter of wifi is always like renovation of a bathroom or kitchen - you start renovating from 10 thousand zlotys in your wallet and you end up with expenses of 35 thousand zlotys ...

KOCUREK1970 presents a very black scenario of the repeater :) it doesn't have to be that bad, except that the speed will obviously not be too high, especially if it is a N150 device. If it is possible to run the cable, there is nothing to think about.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the performance issues experienced with the ASUS RT-AC1200 router, which is unable to deliver speeds exceeding 100Mbps via cable and 30Mbps via WiFi, despite a 300Mbps fiber optic internet connection. Users highlight that the router's WAN/LAN ports are limited to 100Mbps, which restricts its performance. Recommendations include considering routers with 1Gb WAN/LAN ports, such as the ASUS RT-AC1200G+, and alternatives like the ASUS RT-AC58U for better performance. Concerns about WiFi coverage on multiple floors are addressed, with suggestions against using repeaters due to potential speed reductions and connectivity issues. Instead, running an Ethernet cable or using a local access point (AP) is advised for optimal performance.
