Inability to Scroll/ Rewind Live on YouTube App - LG Smart TV (Works on Phone & PC)

Why can’t I rewind a live YouTube stream in the LG Smart TV app even though it works on my phone, PC, and TV browser?

It is likely a bug caused by the latest YouTube app update on the TV, because normal videos can still be rewound and the problem appears only in the Smart TV app, not in the browser [#17050317] [#17050360] One suggestion was to update the application again [#17050015] Another was to do a factory reset of the TV, since the update may have broken something [#17050380] [#17051391] A reset was also recommended after updating, but downgrading to older software was considered unlikely [#17050519]

Hello, I have a problem because I can't rewind live on yt, it works on the phone and computer. What could have happened that I couldn't rewind? It works on the TV browser, but it does not want to scroll on the application.

    Hello.

Have you ever been scrolling? I suggest updating the application.

I was able to rewind on Sundays. Could you fix it somehow?

You said you couldn't scroll to live ... and if you play an ordinary movie, you will normally rewind?

The movie can be rewound normally, it happens after the last update.

Ah ... so it was the update that could mess up something. ;) But here I must admit that I do not know what it looks like to roll back the update back on TV, because I probably only did it once a few years ago, and that with stupid things ... :| I don't remember this operation.

I think the reason is clear, but you have to wait for info from someone else, unless you manage to get it yourself. Possibly factory settings , also some solution there, if of course you do not have some extra fine-tuned TV.

I tried to restore the settings, but I will wait maybe there will be a second update.

Always reset after updating. And the second update may never happen or will not change anything.
Upgrading to older software is unlikely to be an option.

But what needs to be reset?

Then do a factory TV reset and that's it. So hard to understand?

There is no point in doing a reset, it's YT's fault. If I do a reset, I will have to update YT anyway.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around the inability to rewind live streams on the YouTube app on an LG Smart TV, while the feature works on mobile and PC platforms. Users suggest that the issue may have arisen after a recent app update, as rewinding regular videos functions correctly. Recommendations include updating the app, performing a factory reset, or waiting for a potential future update. However, some users express skepticism about the effectiveness of a reset, arguing that the problem lies with YouTube rather than the TV itself.

FAQ

TL;DR: On LG TVs, YouTube live rewind depends on DVR; when enabled, viewers can rewind up to 12 hours. "DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream." Fixes: update or reinstall YouTube, or factory reset; rollbacks aren’t supported. [DVR on live streams — YouTube Help]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps LG Smart TV owners fix or work around YouTube live streams that won’t rewind in the TV app.

Quick Facts

  • Live rewind requires the streamer to enable DVR; otherwise the seek bar is locked. [DVR on live streams — YouTube Help]
  • Typical DVR window: up to 12 hours on supported devices. [Watch live streams on YouTube — YouTube Help]
  • The issue started after a recent LG YouTube app update; VOD rewind still works. [Elektroda, Kubcioo, post #17050360]
  • Downgrading to an older YouTube app version isn’t offered on webOS per user reports. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17050519]

Why can’t I rewind YouTube live on my LG Smart TV app?

Live rewind depends on YouTube’s DVR feature. If the creator disabled DVR for that stream, seeking is blocked. Regular videos still rewind because DVR isn’t involved. Test another live stream that supports DVR to confirm.

How do I fix “can’t rewind live” on the YouTube app (LG webOS)?

Do platform basics first.
  1. Update YouTube and your TV’s software, then restart the TV.
  2. Remove and reinstall the YouTube app, then relaunch.
  3. Sign out and back in, then test a live stream. [Troubleshoot YouTube on TV — YouTube Help]

What should I reset after a YouTube update?

Reset the entire TV to factory settings. “Always reset after updating.” Reconfigure only after testing YouTube live rewind. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17050519]

Can I roll back the YouTube app update on LG Smart TV?

Official downgrades aren’t provided through LG’s store. As one expert noted, “Upgrading to older software is unlikely to be an option.” Use workarounds or wait for an update. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17050519]

Why do regular videos rewind, but not live streams?

Video-on-demand always allows scrubbing. Live rewind requires DVR enabled by the creator. When DVR is on, viewers can rewind up to 12 hours on supported devices. If DVR is off, the live timeline stays locked. [Watch live streams on YouTube — YouTube Help]

Does the TV browser behave differently from the YouTube app?

Yes. The original report shows live rewind worked in the TV browser but not in the YouTube app. That points to an app-specific limitation or bug rather than a hardware issue. [Elektroda, Kubcioo, post #17049762]

Will a factory reset force the YouTube app to update again?

Yes. After a reset, the TV will reinstall current app versions when you reconnect. The original poster noted they would need to update YouTube again after resetting. [Elektroda, Kubcioo, post #17051593]

How can I tell if a live stream allows rewinding?

If DVR is enabled, you can pause and scrub the live timeline. If you only see a solid LIVE indicator with no seek bar, DVR is off. Try pausing; if playback resumes at the live point, rewind isn’t available. [Watch live streams on YouTube — YouTube Help]

Is there any timeline for when a fix will arrive?

There is no guaranteed timeline for a corrective update. As one reply cautioned, “The second update may never happen or will not change anything.” Monitor YouTube and LG updates. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17050519]

What if live rewind worked before and stopped right after an update?

That indicates a regression in the app. The thread author confirmed the issue began after the last update while VOD remained fine. Wait for a follow-up update. [Elektroda, Kubcioo, post #17050360]

Can I use the web browser on my LG TV as a workaround?

Yes. The original post says live rewind worked in the TV’s browser, but not in the YouTube app. Expect different controls and stability versus the app. [Elektroda, Kubcioo, post #17049762]

Edge case: a specific channel’s live won’t rewind on any device. Why?

The creator likely disabled DVR for that stream. When DVR is off, viewers cannot pause or rewind, regardless of device or platform. Ask the channel or choose another live stream. [Manage live stream settings — YouTube Help]
