Hello. I have had a problem with the sound on my laptop for a while. It looks like when I have headphones connected to it, everything works as it should, the sound is. When I unplug my headphones or any other device that can play audio from my laptop, everything stops, the sound stops working. It all started more or less after upgrading from Win 8.1 to Win10. The whole situation surprises me because on the second laptop I also carried out the update operation from Win 8.1 to 10 and everything works as it should. Updating the drivers did not help because the system says they are up to date. I also tried to uninstall the entire device in the device manager and restart the system so that it would reinstall the sound card itself. It did nothing. The changes to the audio playback properties did not help either. I tried to change the Hz from 16 bit to 24 bit, unfortunately to no avail. Device name Conexant SmartAudio HD

You just think that, as you did, the system installed the same drivers as it had. Apparently, I only had situations where the sound in the laptop was, and it was not, after connecting headphones or external speakers and it happened not after switching from win 8 to win 10, but after updating windows 10, it helped reinstall drivers for those from the manufacturer and not what windows installed. And check the Bios by the way, because I have the option to turn off the speakers built into the laptop and the microphone from the Bios level
