Hello. I have two original systems, Windows 10 pro 64 and Windows 7 pro 64. I bought a new desktop computer. And I would like to ask experienced colleagues what the system would recommend. I use my computer to recover data, listen to music and watch movies. I am asking for the opinions of more experienced colleagues. Thank you and best regards.

And so we will be ticking - i7 generation ...? - If you have a newer one (6+), please give peace of mind with Windows 7, because you will soon be looking for the reason for the lack of possibility to install this system.

    PS
Please refer to the forum regulations - point 3.1.15 and global rules "in computers" and start to treat seriously what should be included in the post when seeking help.

I defended myself a long time before switching to Windows 10, I did it only at the end of last year directly from Windows 7
I'm very happy. So I recommend Windows 10. If you put everything right, it is much better than Windows 7. there is no conflict of programs, eg I have fw comodo from 2011 and I am working great.
I was afraid of backward compatibility with the programs, but they all cope, even the tools are easy to go, like Victoria.
Install Windows 7 upgrade for free to Windows 10 and Windows 10 for sale :)

And I have a question yet. Is it often happens that programs with Windows 7 do not work on Windows 10?

I just wrote, it did not happen to me. Even like Victoria, or fw from 2011. All you have to do is to disable some kind of incompatible programs, because you do not install the old software, but you turn it off and everything is nice :)

I know from experience that Win10 likes to lose the settings and change the drivers at the time of the update. That's why Win10 definitely falls out.

Windows 10 can evade a joke for a long time.
Even if it works without any problems, after a build update there may be some surprise.

holy ration, that's why I do not have the update turned on :)
I really defended myself for a long time before w10, but it was unjustified, and it happened that I was selling a laptop and updated to W10 out of curiosity. Then instead of the laptop I got rid of the PC for a while, so I came back to the paw with W10, I can say that I regret it, I could do it differently and switch to it much earlier as it grew out of childhood diseases :)
And as I mentioned, I chewed on him with W7 so I can see the 'traditionalists' W8, 8.1 and early build y W10 politely waited. But I remember I had the same thing with the same, I also forgot it for a long time 2000 ME, and XP did not make it until after some time, the story was repeated with W7 Viste and the first W7 also skipped. I will not attract tradition anymore because the next MS no longer announces eternal updates, which is why I have successfully blocked them.
    In summary, I recommend W10

W10 does too much without knowledge / questions from the user. It is possible to write a poem about the fact that it changes the drivers to not working.

W7 does not have the above-mentioned defects. I use both systems, and everyone has their pros and cons. You decide which one fits you better because both are good.

How do you look at the number of Win10 and Win7 services (in my case the Pro version)
    Win7 has much less

Win10 has a lot more services that already in the latest version of NO DA to turn off even from the level of Admin !!!
so you can see exactly what Microsoft is aiming for
There are a lot of services that have a user ID in the name and only Microsoft knows what they really do
fishing can not be turned off either

In total, with Windows 10, you can do less with the update for updates on your system
Windows10 with update on the update is getting smarter than you to be more comfortable

Win7 is what it was and does not limit your possibilities

Oddly, after installing both systems, Win10 takes up much less disk space

And now you have to answer the question ... are you a comfortable user and you want Win10 to overload you from the configuration and thus from the access to the system

Do you prefer to get a little more tired from the old and have full, almost full control over the Win7 system

It is true that Win10 often poses problems for its self-importance: drivers mentioned above, but also the exchange of networks for the public, and disconnecting services during the update ... and they sometimes last several days and sometimes the printers are disconnected just ... until the update is finished

    Good luck in your choice
    :)

Quick Facts

What’s the better choice for an i7‑3770 desktop: Windows 10 Pro 64 or Windows 7 Pro 64?

Choose Windows 10 Pro 64 for broader compatibility and smoother upgrades from Windows 7. A user upgraded and hit zero app conflicts. They added, "I'm very happy. So I recommend Windows 10." For everyday tasks, Windows 10 handled older tools reliably in this report. [Elektroda, malik123, post #17111203]

Do Windows 7 programs usually work on Windows 10?

Many do. One upgrader reported no compatibility failures and cited even older utilities working. They wrote, "it did not happen to me." They named Victoria and a 2011 Comodo Firewall as functioning under Windows 10. Test your must‑have apps first, but results here were positive. [Elektroda, malik123, post #17111512]

Can I install Windows 7 on newer Intel CPUs?

For older generations, installations remain more feasible with proper drivers. [Elektroda, Matuzalem, post #17111202]

Will Windows 10 change my drivers or settings during updates?

Some users saw driver changes and setting resets after updates. One wrote, "Win10 likes to lose the settings and change the drivers." Consider checking drivers after major updates and keeping backups. This behavior can disrupt audio, networking, or peripherals temporarily. [Elektroda, iagre, post #17112219]

Is it safe to leave Windows 10 automatic updates enabled?

Experiences vary. One long‑time user ran Windows 10 from the beginning with automatic updates on. They reported no problems. If your hardware is stable, this can work well. Always allow scheduled restarts to complete updates cleanly. [Elektroda, bodek60, post #17112552]

Can I disable Windows 10 updates to avoid surprises?

How do I check my Intel CPU generation to decide on Windows 7 compatibility?

Use CPU generation as your first filter. If it is 6th‑gen or newer, avoid Windows 7. If it is older, installation is more feasible.
  1. Check your CPU model string.
  2. Identify the generation number.
  3. If 6 or higher, choose Windows 10. [Elektroda, Matuzalem, post #17111202]

Will older tools like Victoria or Comodo Firewall 2011 run on Windows 10?

One upgrader confirmed both Victoria and a 2011 Comodo Firewall worked on Windows 10. They migrated from Windows 7 and saw no conflicts. This suggests strong backward compatibility for common utilities. Always test mission‑critical tools before committing. [Elektroda, malik123, post #17111203]
