Hello, I changed the trunk lid at home, it's time to move the insert what turned out as I pulled out something touched me to check if it works, I put the key in the insert hard to enter, I do not want to turn.
Is it possible to disassemble it as it is jammed, and maybe such an option that if it is removed does not work before I remember it worked, but I did not use it at all, so I do not know when it was operational, there are some manuals for disassembly of the insert and cleaning it

Well, if you didn't use or lubricate it oxidized and tarnished. Will be hard. Try to piss WD, maybe with oil. Maybe it will move.

Actually this one is from B5 but I think "gutters should not be too different and the way the insert is fastened ....

But the insert and "mechanism of action" is the same for the entire VAG group from this period. Of course, the complete mechanisms differ, but the drums are rather the same. The bobbin case is made of amelinium and if it was not lubricated and got salt it oxidized and welded together with the casing. I also suspect that the teeth that are made of brass also "welded" with the drum and that one does not jump into place and locks. Be careful with WD, because it has a bad effect on varnish ...

    tomjed thanks for the info.
The insert is removed so I do not have to think of varnish, from yesterday evening it soaked in kerosene, so I will see maybe something will start, and if I will not use the link to demolish it slowly and clean it gently.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a jammed trunk lid lock insert on a VW Passat B5 FL. The user reports difficulty inserting the key and seeks guidance on disassembly and cleaning. Responses suggest that lack of lubrication may have caused oxidation, making the insert hard to operate. Recommendations include using WD-40 or kerosene for cleaning and soaking the insert in oil. Some participants note that while the insert mechanism may differ slightly, the general design is consistent across the VAG group vehicles from that era. The user plans to proceed with disassembly and cleaning, although they later mention that the insert appears damaged.
