Hello to all forum users. I have a problem with my car. Toyota Corolla 1,4 D4D 2006, 171,000 mileage. The problem is that after driving about 10-20 km the car loses power completely, it smokes black. The car was at a few mechanics, I even led to Toyota service. Unfortunately, no one can solve the problem with this car. All parameters good. Maybe some of you had a similar problem and can tell what could be the reason? The flow meter and EGR valve were cleaned, oil and filters changed regularly.

Smoking in black would indicate too little air - the fuel does not burn and the resulting lack of power - would indicate a turbine. If you have the opportunity, check the turbocharger boost pressure. Look in the net for what the value should be and measure. If you do not have any equipment, look for a workshop that can do it, diesel engines are difficult to diagnose without measuring operating parameters. And the authorized service ........? Once I was processing a similar problem with engine power, I lost only time and nerves ....... I repaired it myself and it was a turbine steering wheel damage.

Only that an authorized Toyota service center drove my car with a computer connected and checked all parameters. Everything is fine according to site. However, I can't drive. The car goes into "emergency" mode, disconnects the turbine and starts to kick heavily. I read somewhere on the forums that it could be a EGR valve or pneumothorax (which would indicate why this is happening on a hot engine). The worst thing is that the car was already with 5 mechanics and everyone unfolds their hands ...

As the service checked me what is wrong with the Ford which I once had, it had its meters connected to measuring points and on this basis he did diagnostics. By what's strange going on with the engine they found out right away. And in this case it's somehow strange that they said nothing. I remember that my website mentioned above also connected the computer and somehow showed nothing. Because what was to show that the valve does not control the turbine? How is this circuit pressurized and not sensorized? Coil voltage was coming, that's all. And for starters, a pressure gauge with a range of up to about 4 bar and check that the turbine is charging.

To show you how difficult it is to locate such a problem, I will quote a post from the Toyota forum

    Quote:

You see, diagnostics of our D4-D is not easy - and in case of a problem that does not trigger "CHECK ENGINE" resembles playing in policemen and thieves. Of course, changing the filters is the basis, but what next when it does not change? ... The best here is "swapping organs", i.e. having a colleague with a similar car (or a friendly workshop) you replace item by item for testing and look if something has improved ( SCV, flow meter, vacuum controls, EGR ...)
    - otherwise you will leave your assets at the ASO (and continue to deal with the problem). In the absence of positive symptoms, only thicker items, i.e. turbines or injections, will remain on the battlefield.

In my case the cause was complex, two injectors were sitting and as a consequence of poor spraying I had combustion with a lot of soot, which collapsed the turbine and generated a similar effect to that described by you (enter in Google "cleaning the steering wheel" and you will find out that it is quite common ailment not only harassing Toyota).
Fortunately - I was able to buy a cheap set of new injectors (~ 600 Euro), which improved the situation, but there were still "crush" and only recently cleaned the turbine gave the desired effect. That's not all, I'm talked to a Dutchman who has unused EGR (55 Euro - for this money I exchange as part of prevention), and to "my" workshop - where during the next oil and filter change, I clean the suction manifold (also prevention, but after reading Google records "cleaning the collector" I think it's worth doing). Phew, I hope it ends there ...

I had a similar problem in the avensis d4d 2litry, the car weakened, kicked in black sometimes it went better, sometimes a complete lack of power - no mechanics diagnosis errors different (flow, turbine, egr, injection) I could write a paper. The basis not to expose yourself to costs checking all the elements of the system supplying air to the combustion chamber under the account of tightness and patency starting from the air filter (I mean hoses, tubes, egr) for me the INTERCULER COOLER was clogged after cleaning the car as the new repair cost one Saturday spent in the garage.
