    Hello,

I have a big problem working with sharing a printer from my Windows 10 computer to another Windows 10 computer on the network.

It keeps asking me to provide Network Credentials to the computer where the printer was shared , I just don't know where to get these network credentials, i.e. login and password - or I don't know how to disable these network credentials completely.

On the computer on which I shared the printer, i.e. on the DESKTOP-GFVSEJ8 computer, I set it not to force the password, and then it does! (it forces these credentials!) - to disable "credentials" (?) (or maybe I haven't disabled the credentials ???) I entered Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change advanced sharing settings -> and then at the very bottom in ALL NETWORKS In Password protected sharing I set it on Turn off password-protected sharing and clicked save Changes , and I restarted DESKTOP-GFVSEJ8 and still asks for network credentials when A10-1 wants to connect to the printer from DESKTOP-GFVSEJ8.

The printer works and prints and it is connected with a USB cable to the DESKTOP-GFVSEJ8 computer, I also shared this printer and it is 100% shared and I want to use the next computer called A10-1 connected to the same switch / rotator to use the network shared printer from the DESKTOP compurter -GFVSEJ8.

How do I turn off those goddamn network credentials so I can print to a printer? I've been struggling with this for 3 days.

Greet and wait for a reply,

Enter the password you use for the "admin" account on the GFVSEJ8 computer, or enter the user and password that logs into the computer.

Only how to check the CORRECT username, because e.g. on my computer I have a user named M, for example, and the displayed name on the computer is different.

I know the display username on the GFVSEJ8 computer and the password for it, but when I enter it in the credentials, it still doesn't work.

It would be best to disable these credentials completely only if it can be done? if so, how to do it?

    Added after 20 [minutes]:

I went to Computer Settings -> Accounts -> Family and other users -> Add someone else to this computer - and added a new account and changed the account type to ADMINISTRATOR, tried to enter the admin username and password and these credentials still don't work ........... what's going on? HOW TO TURN THEM OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a new problem ....

Ok, so I changed something in services.msc, installed the missing drivers, changed the values in the registry from sharing and switched the printer to USB to my computer, i.e. A10-1 and it was seen on the network but it was not possible to connect still and there was such a problem as I gave in the photo above.

The problem turned out to be ... WINDOWS DEFFENDER! After the firewall is completely disabled, DESKTOP-GFVSEJ8 sees my PC on the network normally, ie A10-1, and can use the printer and other files shared on my PC. After re-enabling the firewall - again the printer and files cannot be used.

How do I add an exception for a printer on this firewall?

I am just struggling with the same problem.

I entered Control Panel \ User Accounts \ Credential Manager
I added a password credential and I can't log in, can anyone else do something?

First of all, the network must be private, it will not work on a public connection.
Secondly, on the computer that is sharing there must be an account with a password, an "empty" password will not work. (of course you can ignore security and turn it off, see below)

It happened to me that the computer remembered some wrong password or something and I had to enter through the wizard of connecting a network drive where it is possible to select "connect using other credentials" and I will be prompted to enter the login and password again. And the most interesting thing is that I had to enter a random login / password and the next attempt with the correct login / password was successful, previously the system claimed that the password was wrong.

If someone wants to ignore security and share without passwords, on the computer that he shares you have to enter in turn:
network and internet settings -> network and sharing center -> change advanced sharing settings -> all networks -> disable password protected sharing (check and save)
After this operation, it is best to restart both computers.

unfortunately, I do not have a password in advanced sharing and I am calling the password all the time, I noticed that I entered different usernames and even without a password and entered the folder which is a mapped drive, but after a long time or restart it does not work again and I have to enter network credentials again, it's good that, at least, because nothing worked before, but it is very onerous. So many stout heads at Microsoft and they can't cope with it and it has been going on for quite a long time because since they removed the homegroup from Windows, there are constant problems. For years I have had several computers and a server in the network, but it was only with windows 10 that I got mad.

If everything else fails, I recommend the method that is in my signature, i.e. making the printer available via the LPR protocol. The description is for Windows 10 + XP, but the installation method on all Windows versions is similar.

Anyone suggest a solution ? Password protected sharing is disabled. Windows 22H2 patient.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around issues related to sharing a printer between two Windows 10 computers, specifically the persistent request for network credentials despite attempts to disable password protection. Users suggest entering the correct username and password associated with the admin account on the host computer. It is noted that the network must be set to private, and an account with a password is required for sharing. Some users experienced issues with incorrect password caching and recommended using the network drive connection wizard to re-enter credentials. A workaround mentioned includes sharing the printer via the LPR protocol as an alternative solution.
