I have a question about the hose at the cistern. Steel hose, installed about 1.5 years ago. For a long time, maybe even from the beginning I can hear some hissing at the hose from time to time. Is this an indication of some water pressure and that something is letting go somewhere? You can't hear it all the time.

When does this happen, is it while the cistern is drawing water, or while the cistern is filled and "waiting" to be used?

This happens when the cistern is waiting

My opinion is that there is a minimal loss of water from the tank, when it "escapes so much water that the valve must "admit" water then and there is a hiss. That is, in my opinion, a slightly leaking drain/flush valve.

Thank you very much. I can now hear that it hisses from the cistern side rather than the wall.

There is also the option that the water level is too high and escapes through the overflow and the valve allows.

Unfortunately, there is also the option of the valve locking float getting stuck. Remove the cover and check if the float is well aligned. Often due to the loosening of the nut holding the valve, this device moves losing alignment.

The main thing is to fix it quickly because such a cistern can "make the bill" for water.

As the valve at the cistern is not 100 years old and just touching it is not risky, turn off the full cistern for the night. If it is empty or incomplete in the morning, too much escapes from it, that is, the automatic drain lets through if it is full, it means that too much is pouring and escapes through the overflow. This means that filling is the culprit.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a hissing noise emanating from a steel hose connected to a cistern, which has been present since installation approximately 1.5 years ago. The noise occurs when the cistern is not actively drawing water, suggesting potential water pressure issues. Responses indicate that the hissing may be due to a minor leak in the drain/flush valve, an overflow condition caused by excessive water level, or a stuck float valve. It is advised to monitor the cistern's water level and check the valve alignment to prevent water wastage and potential increased bills.
