Cracked screen. Touching a small part of the screen works.
Original markings on the LCD tape below:

Pocket Book Touch Lux 4 Screen Replacement: Transferring Touch Function & ED060XH7 Compatibility

    1. On Ali with this designation I find only LCD with backlight and without touch Does this mean that the touch can be transferred to the new screen? I was watching and it seems to me that the touch is plastic (not glass, hence all the damage to the screen) stuck to the LCD. Can you peel off and translate?
    2. Ali has a touch screen labeled ED060XH7 for Pocketbook Touch Lux 3. Will it fit Lux 4? Resolution, size, tape outputs identical, at least from the photos it looks like this.

Has anyone experience repairing this reader?

Manufacturers go easy touch it is glued to the LOCA UV glue, if properly heated, it can be removed, but it is not easy. Another problem is to stick the needed UV lamp and LOCA glue again.
For this reason, these classic readers are still in the price because these glued touches are not very profitable when repairing the screen after damage to the screen. One single fare.

For now, the case is suspended, it is waiting. Touch screen ED060XH7 for $ 47.5 and in the sellers' questions and answers, it can be used instead of the ED060XCD which costs $ 75. Considerable savings, about PLN 100.

I have searched the internet for these displays and unfortunately they are not that completely compatible. The touch sensor is glued a bit differently in both of these screens and it is related to a different touch controller configuration. Updating the SocketBook firmware overwrites this configuration and thus may break the touch operation. Some solution is to disable the update.

The problem is probably more and more current, because a lot of these readers with a broken screen have appeared on the market - poor packaging for transport. Was the replacement of ED060XCD with ED060XH7 successful?

As I wrote and linked in the post above, the substitution is possible with some reservations. For peace of mind, I chose a solution with the original screen.

I throw the update - the exchange was successful (with some lesson).

I ordered the screens on aliexpress and I warn you that the compatible part number (ED060XCD) does not mean that it will fit this particular reader (!) What differs (with what I have encountered) are the dimensions of the connection ribbons, despite the theoretical compatibility as it is the ribbon is too short, or the thread from the connection is slightly shifted. Apparently, these screens are also used in other devices, where they are made with slightly different ribbons.
Unfortunately, I cut myself, but I finally managed to buy a model that fits .. Besides, discussions with the Chinese are not the easiest ones.

If someone needs it, I send my measured screen, the dimensions are removable with a ruler, so they may be inaccurate.

I also ordered 2 more, thankfully it went free of customs and other extra charges, so I can resell at a similar price with a delivery time of 3 days, not a month :) - if someone is interested, you can contact me in a private message.

Hi. A bit of digging up the topic. About a year ago I broke my screen. After consulting with the Chinese, I ordered the ED060XH7 screen and replaced it myself. Of course, the Chinese assured that it was the same, and I did not penetrate. Came, put it on and it worked. Today, somewhere on some forum, I found info that there is a new soft for my reader, so I made updates and of course the touch stopped working. Thought I'd go back to the old software. There are two versions on the manufacturer's website: 6.0.1118 and 5.20.1508. I uploaded both versions but unfortunately it did not help. There is some chance to revive the touch or I have to replace the screen again.

Unfasten the tape from the touch panel, turn on the reader, then turn it off and reconnect the reader. if you cannot turn the reader off without touching it, you can do it by unplugging the battery. Or if there is, use the reset button. If it does nothing, then go to the settings and restore the reader to the factory settings. Give the markings from the layout from the digitizer tape.

And you have options there with what I see something like:
.Screen Calibration - calibrate the sensor panel for more precise operation. After starting this function,
follow the instructions on the device screen.

But I do not know if the calibration of the screen as a touch panel or the display itself. Check this option.

Sure it is. But the reader, when turned on, prompts you to configure the Wi-Fi network or skip this step, but to select an option, you need to have a working touch. Anyway, even if I had a reader in the main menu, I would not be able to enter the settings anyway, because this is also what touch is needed. The reader has physical buttons, but it's only HOME, MENU, and that's it. No menu navigation without touch is possible. I still have a plan to check if the mouse connected via OTG on the micro usb port works, but I have to go home and find this adpterek.

Well, I was supposed to propose it, if the reader has OTG, I would be a bit surprised, but it won't hurt to check.

In the meantime, you have older firmware versions from here I read it is not only you with this touch after updating you have a problem.
Apparently, after uploading version 5.18_502, the touch starts working properly. There is also version 5.19.651 you can also check.

I don't know, maybe the update process has to be carried out gradually, from the oldest to the newest, without skipping the others, so if you have the old version, we do not install the newest version right away.

The reader does not accept these software versions. It enters the update process and displays:

    Unsupported platform.

You can tell where you found these software, then I'll look for something that works.

On the manufacturer's website I saw only the last two but I will check the links from you

    edit1: I wasn't looking for Russian :-)
edit2: Now, when I wonder, when I bought the reader in January 2020, after the first turning on it automatically updated and looking after these software release dates, I had to have a version before 5.20.1508 20191024 and it was updated to it, so my touch worked on it. On the latest 6.0.1118 20200520 it stopped and on the older one it does not want to start working. Following this lead, maybe it just broke and it coincided with a software update.

As a last resort, write to technical support for assistance.

Don't you have the old touch? To hook it up and check it? But you probably fired.

Since it worked before the update and stopped after it and no mechanical damage, it is probably not the software's fault.

I was just thinking about it. And the funniest thing is that he was huddling around in the drawers for a long time and I felt that I shouldn't have thrown him out, but I think I fired. I don't remember, I'll check at home. Meanwhile, I wrote to support and got from them a program in the SWUPDATE.BIN file called by the technical support gentleman formatting software. I tried, but the reader displayed the settings menu with the words Format Internal Memory, which I can't click because the touchpad is not working. In addition, the reader after a reboot all the time returns to this settings menu with the above-mentioned inscription, even after I have already uploaded a good soft :-) so they helped me :-)

Overall it looks dull. The housing is mostly snap-on and sticky, instead of threads, screws are screwed into the plastic. This tape on the right is a touch tape on the left of the display and backlight.

The backlight tape is covered with the display tape, yes?

    By checking the SWUPDATE.BIN file

There is a script or command lines in it, but as you say, if the touch does not work, you cannot activate it unless you should do the same and restart automatically.

Adds better photos. This white ribbon under the display tape. OTG does not work, when I try to upload soft, the update is done without a problem - I noticed by the icons that each version is a bit different. However, this format crashes all the time. Generally, I don't have new ideas anymore.

The reader is on the allwinner A13 system. Sometimes this type of equipment has a recovery mode, especially a tablet, I do not know how it is with an ebook reader.
software usually comes in .img format for tablets.
Information which may be useful but not they must .

HOW TO FIX your PB with no tools:
You have to connect the touch panel connector (only) to another pocketbook which have proper setting to your panel and force firmware upgrade on the pocketbook. The correct data will be saved in touch chip. This can be done relatively easy, only with opening rear cover of the both pocketbooks. To force firmware upgrade save the firmware on SD card, insert it to pocketbook at switch it on holding both "next" and "previous" physical buttons.
The touch panel type is printed on screen (largest) connector of the panel (you will have to disconnect it to check), the touch connector is on the opposite side.
If it's working, disable firmware upgrade, as it can break it in future.

If I understand correctly it needs a different reader right? Anyone to borrow? I pay for shipping both ways :-)

Edit. I ordered a reader with a damaged screen on olx for PLN 50. I can risk so much and if I don't manage to hit the wall with him.

So yeah. As I wrote before, I ordered another reader with a mechanically damaged screen. Only after ordering, I started to wonder what the version with the ED060XCD screen would be like, which is what I had originally in my reader. It would probably have been a bummer. Only today the reader has arrived. After removing the cap with trembling hands, I looked behind the tape and ED060XH7 there. You can see more happiness than reason. I put my screen on the donor reader and uploaded soft 5.20.1508 because I knew the screen was definitely working on it. I have uploaded 6.0.1118 to my reader. After the swap, the touch came to life and the reader flashes on the new software. Thank you very much for your help and commitment to my colleagues gradek83 and radoslav006. If someone had a similar problem, feel free to write, I can share the donor's motherboard for free. Regards

ps. two more questions arise for me. It's about the update process, I wonder how and where the information is saved which touch controller is to upload the update program, I think that having this information, it is enough to edit the script and change one value and that's it. Or possibly replace part of the code so that the soft for the controller has two the same dock codes for the ED060XCD version. Unfortunately, I am too thin for that.
