    Hello
I have recently started playing around with a smart home(HomeKit to be precise) based mainly on esp8266 modules. So far I have a homepod mini, led strip, night light and two sockets, but I plan to increase my collection. If my system grows to ten, twenty or thirty devices, will my internet slow down (e.g. from load) and if so, would it be possible to avoid this? I know it's a rather odd question, but I can't seem to find information on this anywhere.

In general, LAN/WLAN-based smart home systems with internet access do not exchange large amounts of data. Therefore, a noticeable 'internet slowdown' should not be expected even with a larger number of devices.

and could it depend on the router model?

The thing is, I generally have poor internet and am afraid that so many devices might overload it. I generally have wireless internet.

Topic summary

The discussion centers around the impact of adding multiple smart home devices on internet performance, specifically in a HomeKit setup utilizing esp8266 modules. Users express concerns about potential slowdowns as the number of devices increases, with one participant noting their experience with poor internet quality. Responses indicate that smart home devices typically do not consume significant bandwidth, suggesting that even with a larger number of devices, noticeable internet slowdown is unlikely. The quality of the internet connection and router model may play a role, but overall, users are reassured that their systems should function without major issues.
