In the laptop, there is only one driver missing in the device manager, but is it a missing driver for the disk or graphics card or something else?

Where can I download this driver?
The laptop was purchased without any driver discs.
All I have is the Internet and a Google search engine to download the missing driver.

    Hello.
It`s some faulty USB device, maybe the built-in camera or card reader or bluetooth - or whatever.

The device ID is invalid - the DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE status indicates a problem with the device, so you will not find drivers for this ID.

This is not the correct identifier, from what you can see it is some device connected via USB, do you have a pad or something else connected? If so, unplug it and see if it goes away.

If you download drivers from the website of the laptop manufacturer, you need to know the company name/model of the laptop and go to the website and search. You start installing drivers from the CHIP set of the motherboard, network card (WIFi), updating without antivirus, you update windows, driver. from integrated and dedicated graphics, music

@jajcznica1001 Remove all devices from the USB ports, then move the mouse cursor (click PM) to the device with the exclamation mark in the Device Manager and from the window select the "Uninstall" option, when it removes the device, click the mouse (any device) again (in this window to select the options "Scan for hardware changes."

Let it do this when connected to the Internet, this is my solution when it comes to problems with the device in Windows.

The camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, all USB outputs and card readers are working, I checked them thoroughly. I turned off EFI or UEFI in the BIOS, no matter what it's called, all devices and the problem with the Device Manager disappeared, but then I turned them on one by one so that the voice came back and after each turn on the next device I reached the Windows desktop and checked the Device Manager and it turned out that it was it's the fault of the switched on FingerprintDevice so what is this device and what is it for and I disabled it in the BIOS?

It is a fingerprint scanner. It can be replaced easily (you can probably get a used scanner module or the entire palmrest with a scanner for little money), but most often it is not necessary equipment at home.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around a missing USB driver identified as USBVID_0000&PID_0002, which is causing a DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE error in the device manager. Users suggest that the issue may stem from a faulty USB device, potentially a built-in camera, card reader, or Bluetooth device. Recommendations include disconnecting all USB devices and uninstalling the problematic device from the device manager, followed by a hardware scan. The author later identifies the issue as related to a fingerprint scanner, which can be disabled in the BIOS. It is noted that the fingerprint scanner can be replaced if necessary, but it is often not essential for home use.

FAQ

TL;DR: 1 device shows Code 43; "DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE indicates a problem with the device." Likely an internal USB part (e.g., fingerprint reader) on an HP ProBook 455 G3; disable in BIOS or replace the module. [Elektroda, dt1, post #19993485]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps Windows laptop users diagnose "Unknown USB device" errors fast and choose the right fix.

Quick Facts

  • Code 43 message: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems." [Error codes in Device Manager in Windows]
  • DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE means the USB descriptor could not be read; drivers won’t fix bad hardware. [Elektroda, dt1, post #19993485]
  • In this HP ProBook 455 G3 case, the failing part was the fingerprint reader; disabling it in BIOS cleared the error. [Elektroda, jajecznica1001, post #19996612]
  • Download official HP ProBook 455 G3 drivers (chipset, WLAN, graphics, biometric) from HP Support. [Elektroda, sisko, post #19993482]
  • USB 2.0 Low‑Speed data rate is 1.5 Mbps per spec. [USB 2.0 Specification]

What does USBVID_0000&PID_0002 and "DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE" mean in Device Manager?

It means the USB device failed enumeration and Windows inserted placeholder IDs. Code 43 signals the device reported a problem. This is not a downloadable driver issue; it’s a failing or misbehaving USB device, often internal. "DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE indicates a problem with the device." [Elektroda, dt1, post #19993485]

Is this a missing driver for my disk or graphics card?

No. The entry is in the USB class using usb.inf, not storage or display. The location shows a USB hub port, which points to a USB peripheral, not the GPU or HDD. It’s typically an internal USB accessory, like a sensor. [Elektroda, jajecznica1001, post #19993449]

How can I quickly identify which internal USB device is failing?

Use USB Device Tree Viewer to see the exact port and hub chain. Unplug all external USB gear to isolate internal parts. Match the reported hub/port to internal devices (camera, card reader, fingerprint, Bluetooth). This narrows it down before opening the laptop. [Elektroda, pidar, post #19993523]

How do I fix Code 43 on an unknown USB device?

Update Windows, then install OEM chipset and USB drivers. Next, uninstall the unknown device and restart. If it persists, disable the suspected internal device in BIOS, or replace the module. "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" [Error codes in Device Manager in Windows]

How do I uninstall and rescan the unknown USB device?

  1. Unplug all USB devices.
  2. In Device Manager, right‑click the device with the exclamation mark and choose Uninstall.
  3. Click Action > Scan for hardware changes to re‑enumerate devices. [Elektroda, kiss39, post #19995525]

Where can I download drivers for HP ProBook 455 G3?

Use HP’s official support page for your exact model. Install chipset first, then network (Wi‑Fi), Windows updates, graphics, audio, and biometric if present. Avoid third‑party driver sites. [Elektroda, sisko, post #19993482]

Why does the device come back after I uninstall it?

It’s an internal USB device, so Windows re‑detects it on reboot. Uninstalling only clears it until the next enumeration. The OP saw the device return after restarts even with external USB unplugged. Disabling it in BIOS prevents re‑enumeration. [Elektroda, jajecznica1001, post #19995115]

How did the OP fix the problem on the ProBook 455 G3?

They isolated the issue to the "FingerprintDevice" by toggling BIOS devices one by one. Disabling the fingerprint reader removed the unknown USB device error from Device Manager. That confirmed a faulty fingerprint module. [Elektroda, jajecznica1001, post #19996612]

Can I replace only the fingerprint sensor, or the whole palmrest?

You can replace just the fingerprint scanner module, or swap the entire palmrest assembly. "It can be replaced easily," and used parts are commonly available. Many users simply disable it if they don’t need biometrics. [Elektroda, dt1, post #19996655]

Could the unknown device be a camera, card reader, or Bluetooth?

Yes. Internal cameras, card readers, Bluetooth, and scanners all hang off the USB bus. A descriptor failure can occur on any of them. Unplug external USB devices to rule them out first. Then check internal candidates. [Elektroda, dt1, post #19993485]

What does "Device Bus Speed: Low‑Speed" tell me?

Low‑Speed is a USB 2.0 mode at 1.5 Mbps. It only indicates the device negotiated Low‑Speed. It doesn’t identify the exact device type by itself. Use port mapping to correlate it with hardware. [USB 2.0 Specification]

Do I need the fingerprint reader enabled?

No. You only lose fingerprint sign‑in when it’s disabled. "Most often it is not necessary equipment at home." If you don’t use biometrics, you can safely disable it. [Elektroda, dt1, post #19996655]

What’s the recommended driver install order after a clean Windows setup?

Install the chipset driver first, then the network (Wi‑Fi/LAN) driver. Run Windows Update, including optional drivers. Then install graphics, audio, and any remaining device drivers, such as biometric. This sequence avoids dependency issues. [Elektroda, kiss39, post #19993492]

Will a driver fix VID_0000&PID_0002?

No. Those zeros appear because the USB stack never got a valid descriptor. Without a proper device ID, Windows cannot bind a vendor driver. "You will not find drivers for this ID." [Elektroda, dt1, post #19993485]

My USB descriptor shows bLength: 0x00 — what does that mean?

It means the device returned a zero‑length descriptor, so enumeration failed immediately. Windows logs DeviceFailedEnumeration and often shows Code 43. This points to a faulty or unresponsive device. Disable or replace the module to resolve it. [Elektroda, jajecznica1001, post #19995115]
