DVB-T2 HEVC Decoder HD120_CID: No Sound in H265 Programs (MT2203, TC6800) - Firmware Help

Best answers

Why is there no sound on H.265/DVB-T2 channels on my HD120_CID decoder, and is there a firmware update that can fix it?

This decoder is most likely not missing the right firmware; the forum consensus was that the HD120_CID / MT2203 / TC6800 box is adapted to the Russian market and supports only MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 Layer II, so firmware will not add the missing AC3/E-AC3/AC4 audio support [#20097916][#20323944] Some devices under the same HD120 name use different hardware and firmware, so files found online may not match this unit even if the model name is similar [#20331851] The user also reported that older firmware versions on some variants reportedly had AC3, but the downloaded update was not recognized by the decoder and no working firmware source was found [#20327542] In the menu, checking or switching the audio track does not help if none of the available tracks decode properly [#20034509][#20035011] So the practical answer from the thread is that this is a codec/hardware limitation, not a simple setting problem [#20323944]

I have a DVB-T2 HEVC decoder from Aliexpress that works, but there is no sound in h265 programs. Everything is displayed, signal parameters, type of sound, etc. There is no name or symbols on the decoder, after entering the menu there are data:
    Model: HD120_CID
    HW version: V202
    SW version: V10023_2021/03/30 17:57:38
    I found some more data
    Processor: MT2203
    Tuner: TC6800
    System: DVB-T/T2/C compliant
Previously, the informative, test channel of Polsat worked, but when they turned on other h265 programs, there is no sound in them as well as in the test one from Polsat. Maybe someone knows what model it is and what current firmware to look for and where. Many hours on Google didn't help.

Check in the menu and in the soundtrack, if there are no - maybe the Audio track is set wrong or something...
    https://forum.emitel.pl/viewtopic.php?t=8225

I checked the soundtracks. Even when there are several to choose from in a given program, none of them work. There are no other sound settings.
I noticed something strange, on another decoder, Events 24 has MPEG audio, and there is no audio either, and it used to be (before May 23, 2022).

The picture in all channels is flawless, even perfect.
The only problem is with the sound.

You probably won't solve the problem so easily now, this tuner is adapted to the Russian market and has support only for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 Layer II, i.e. no support for MPEG-H (AC-3 and AC-4).

Just once again, it should be noted that most set-top boxes bought on Aliexpress do not meet the requirements of the standard adopted in Poland, usually they are not even intended for sale on the European market.

There are tuners with older software and they work. It's a matter of firmware, only where to download it. The tuner has many functions that were not dreamed of by tuners sold in Poland, all program parameters are displayed under one button on the remote control, everything works super smoothly, does not lose programs, does not change their numbering, there is YouTube, it plays files. I'm still looking for firmware.

I am improving, but some support for the new sound system at least for MPEG-2 layer 2 and 3 has only a problem with the firmware and switching to the appropriate system does not work thanks to the image being received.

Have you tested changing the region as it is in the settings for the Czech Republic or Germany?

Search the Czech and Ukrainian forums, maybe they will have 4pda, this tuner is more popular in the east. Unfortunately, I did not find the firmware

There are no regional settings. There is only software language change which doesn't change anything except the displayed language.

I found an update of such a tuner on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gsw6-wlxHvw
I downloaded the update file: evn1509c-115-0902_rom_all.bin from the address: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13nLlNtBzGG5QfwtG75LB3rTbQuZfm6-t/view
Unfortunately, the tuner does not see this file in the update. Maybe someone knows how to change the name to make it work. They must have messed something up so he can't see the update. It sees other files via USB but not in the update window.

You are unlikely to solve anything, the chipset does not have hardware support for the required AC3 and E-AC3 audio format.

p.s. I can bet that programs recorded on the tuner and played on the computer have sound without a problem.

Actually, the computer plays with sound. But as I read about the firmware on foreign forums, this copy had AC3 in the second firmware release, and not in the last one. This would indicate a blockade of AC3 to the European market. That's why I downloaded the firmware for this model from Asia, but there is probably some trick with the extension or with the file name because the file is not visible in the firmware update window.

The second version is a tuner with a different processor and support. Under this designation there were several versions of this tuner for different models and sellers.
No new software will cause the operation of something that is not in hardware support.

Thanks, this is the first time I’ve seen different hardware under the same name. So it will treat the tuner as a recorder. Strange that they only broadcast audio in AAC and you can’t select MPEG. In the past, there were different sound encodings on TV to choose from, I checked old recordings, there is a lot to choose from.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion concerns a DVB-T2 HEVC decoder model HD120_CID with hardware version V202 and software version V10023_2021/03/30, featuring an MT2203 processor and TC6800 tuner. The main issue is the absence of audio on H.265 (HEVC) encoded programs despite video and signal parameters displaying correctly. The decoder shows no sound even when multiple audio tracks are available. The problem is linked to lack of support for modern audio codecs such as AC-3, E-AC3, and MPEG-H due to hardware limitations and firmware restrictions, possibly influenced by regional market adaptations (e.g., Russian market). Attempts to find and apply alternative firmware, including Asian versions, failed due to incompatibility or update file recognition issues. The device lacks regional settings beyond language selection, and older firmware versions reportedly had better audio codec support. The chipset does not natively support required audio formats, making software-only fixes ineffective. Some users suggest searching Eastern European forums for firmware, but no definitive solution was found. The decoder is noted for good video performance, stable channel management, and additional features like YouTube playback, but audio codec support remains a critical limitation. A hardware identification tip involving a hidden screw under a sticker was also mentioned.

FAQ

TL;DR: On HD120_CID (MT2203/TC6800), 0% of tested HEVC channels output audio; “none of them work.” This FAQ explains why the sound is missing and your safest options without bricking firmware. For owners of HD120_CID DVB‑T2 boxes affected after 2022‑05‑23. [Elektroda, h999, post #20035011]

Why it matters: Poland’s DVB‑T2 transition left many imported decoders with picture but no audio; this helps you triage fast.

Quick Facts

How do I fix no sound on H.265 DVB‑T2 channels with HD120_CID?

You cannot fix it with settings. The MT2203 platform in this box lacks AC‑3/E‑AC‑3 decoding, so HEVC channels stay silent. Use a receiver that supports these audio codecs if you need live audio. Picture remains unaffected, which matches reports. [Elektroda, tomaszlonski, post #20323944]

Will a firmware update add AC‑3/E‑AC‑3/AC‑4 decoding to this decoder?

No. Codec support depends on hardware blocks in the chipset. As one expert put it, “No new software will cause the operation of something that is not in hardware support.” Updates cannot unlock missing audio hardware. [Elektroda, tomaszlonski, post #20331851]

Do different audio tracks or language options fix the silence?

No. Users tested multiple selectable audio tracks on affected HEVC channels, and none played audio. The on‑screen audio labels can appear correct, yet output remains silent. This confirms a decode capability gap, not a track selection issue. [Elektroda, h999, post #20035011]

Can changing the region in settings help restore sound?

No. This model exposes no regional profile menu. Only the interface language can change, which does not affect audio decoding. Region switching cannot enable unsupported codecs on this hardware. [Elektroda, h999, post #20109569]

Which channels still have sound on this box in Poland?

Reports show TVP1, TVP2, and TVP Info played with audio, while HEVC commercial channels did not. That contrast helped diagnose a codec mismatch rather than a reception fault. The picture quality remained flawless. [Elektroda, h999, post #20035011]

Why does Events 24 show MPEG audio yet remain silent now?

On this unit, Events 24 displayed MPEG audio but produced no sound after 2022‑05‑23. Before that date it played. The observation supports that broadcaster audio parameters changed beyond what this hardware decodes. [Elektroda, h999, post #20035011]

What hardware is inside the AliExpress DVB‑T2 HD120_CID?

Identifiers reported: Model HD120_CID; HW version V202; SW version V10023 dated 2021/03/30 17:57:38; CPU MT2203; Tuner TC6800; System DVB‑T/T2/C. These specifics help match discussion and limitations. [Elektroda, h999, post #20034385]

Is HD120_CID always the same hardware across units?

No. Under this designation, several hardware versions exist with different processors and support. As noted, “Under this designation there were several versions of this tuner for different models and sellers.” Cross‑flashing mismatched firmware will not add missing codecs. [Elektroda, tomaszlonski, post #20331851]

Is this tuner aligned with Polish/EU DVB‑T2 audio requirements?

No. It was described as “adapted to the Russian market” with only MPEG‑1/2 Layer II audio. That omits AC‑3/E‑AC‑3/AC‑4 used locally. Many AliExpress set‑top boxes do not meet Poland’s adopted standard. [Elektroda, tomaszlonski, post #20097916]

How can I confirm the broadcast actually contains audio?

Make a short recording on the box, then play the TS file on a computer. Users confirmed the recording plays with sound on PC, proving the stream carries audio that the box cannot decode. [Elektroda, h999, post #20327542]

The USB update file isn’t detected (evn1509c-115-0902_rom_all.bin). What can I try safely?

The updater did not list that file, even though USB storage was visible. That points to a filename or package format mismatch for this model. How‑To: 1. Copy the file to the USB root. 2. Open the box’s update menu. 3. If it’s not listed, stop and avoid forcing cross‑flashes. [Elektroda, h999, post #20109569]

Can I at least use HD120_CID as a recorder (PVR) and play files elsewhere?

Yes. Recordings from the box include audio and play fine on a computer. Many owners repurpose the unit as a PVR‑only device to archive shows and decode on PC software. [Elektroda, h999, post #20327542]

Is there an OEM name or board ID that helps when searching info?

One owner reported the unit as “Decoder D‑Sift 74.” A hidden screw sits under the CE lettering on the sticker; probing reveals it. Opening may expose board markings for research. [Elektroda, flinc, post #21403614]

Did anyone post a complete fix for live audio on this hardware?

No. The original poster shelved the unit awaiting a solution. No confirmed firmware or method restored live AC‑3/E‑AC‑3 output on this MT2203 model. [Elektroda, h999, post #20323604]
