Can I program a proximity key fob for an apartment intercom without an original tag, and what is required?

Yes, but only if the intercom supports RFID and you have the access code/PIN needed to add new fobs; otherwise someone with installer access must program it for you [#20108150][#20108419] The described method is to enter the apartment number on the external panel, touch one of the arrow fields, enter the PIN code, wait for the number of already registered cards, and then present the new card within 4 seconds; if it is accepted, it gets saved, and the system supports up to 15 cards for that address [#20109298] The required fob/card type mentioned was UNIQUE 125 kHz [#20109298] If editing is blocked by default in a given model, such as OptimaSL255RC, the installer has to remove that lock first [#20630242]

Hello, I live in an apartment building and I would like to have a proximity key fob without entering the code. I had one in previous housing estates, even with the same model of intercom, but here there is no intercom. If it is possible? Do I have to have at least one to copy it, or is it possible to program it somehow without the original one?

First, the intercom must have RFID support. And then someone has to program it for you.

Maybe he`s such an "intercom guy" that he doesn`t have service codes to enter the program for uploading new key fobs.

Must have a code. Sometimes the installer leaves a user code.

It`s different with the norm. It depends if it`s a code or CODE.👍

So I would ask the administrator, because this is at least a strange approach to the matter.

For technical purposes: provide a photo of your panel with a proximity reader at the entrance door.

You can program the key fob yourself. Below are the instructions:
After purchasing an additional RFID key fob/card, the tenant can independently enter it in the database in the external panel. To do this, take the following steps:
    - enter the apartment number on the external staircase panel
    - touch one of the arrow fields
-enter the PIN code to enter the facility
    - the number of cards already entered at a given address of the premises will be provided (maximum 15)
    - present the new card (key fob) within a maximum of 4 seconds
    - if the card is not repeated (then "REFUSAL"), a save will be made.
-after the system returns to rest, check the operation of the new card (key fob)

    Added after 4 [minutes]:

The card/key ring you need to buy is standard: UNIQUE 125kH

Building administrations and intercom installers do not want to share this type of knowledge because it is a chance for them to earn some extra money. In my opinion, this is an unjustified action and to the detriment of the residents, so if there is a chance to promote this type of knowledge, I am happy to do it.

Well, such things should be included in the rent and not additional earnings for the cooperative, administration or installers.
Is it possible to use a similar combination to assign a key fob to the OptimaSL255RC series intercoms? Installers demand PLN 60-90 for this favor.

Yes, but by default (factory), such editing is blocked.
The lock would have to be removed by the installer.

I started the topic for educational purposes and I expected substantive solutions, not threatening paragraphs. Electronics knows no boundaries. People who had no knowledge of electronics or software spoke out. It was only scaring and beating up. A lot of people advertise on the Internet and copy RFID key rings and cards. Does anyone puts them in prison? Do they copy them for profit? Yes. Are anti-radar cameras illegal? Yes. Is the person who produces them in prison? No. Are driving recorders in cars illegal? In some countries yes? Is someone locking them up? producers and designers to prisons? No. Does anyone make documents as collector`s items? Yes? Is it banned and are these people in prison? No? Likewise, electronic projects for educational purposes are not prohibited. That`s why I don`t agree with closing my topic: https://www.elektroda.pl/rtvforum/topic3985623.html#20629091

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around the feasibility of programming a proximity key fob for an intercom system without having the original fob. It is established that the intercom must support RFID technology, and programming typically requires a user code, which may be withheld by installers. Users share experiences regarding the reluctance of intercom technicians to provide necessary programming services, often citing financial motives. Instructions for self-programming a new RFID key fob are provided, detailing the steps to register the fob using the external panel. The conversation also touches on the OptimaSL255RC series intercoms, noting that factory settings may restrict user access to programming features unless modified by an installer.

FAQ

TL;DR: Many intercoms let residents add RFID tags; this model allows up to 15 fobs per flat, and "You can program the key fob yourself." Buy a UNIQUE 125 kHz tag and enroll it with your apartment PIN. [Elektroda, WojtekRav, post #20109298]

Why it matters: This helps apartment residents figure out how to add a proximity tag without the original fob or a service visit.

Quick Facts

How do I add a proximity key fob without the original?

You can self-enroll a new tag on panels that allow tenant programming. “You can program the key fob yourself.” Use a UNIQUE 125 kHz fob, then follow these steps:
  1. Enter your apartment number and press an arrow on the panel.
  2. Enter the facility PIN for your apartment.
  3. Present the new tag within four seconds to save, then test it. The system rejects duplicates and stores up to 15 tags per flat. [Elektroda, WojtekRav, post #20109298]

Do I need my intercom to support RFID, and how can I tell?

Yes. The intercom must have RFID support, otherwise tags will not work. If it supports RFID, someone must program the tag for you or enable tenant enrollment. Confirm RFID support and who can program tags with your building service or administrator. [Elektroda, kkknc, post #20108150]

What tag type should I buy for this intercom?

Buy a UNIQUE 125 kHz RFID tag, either a card or a key fob. That standard enrolls via the external panel using your apartment number and PIN. Present the new tag when prompted to save it, then test access after the panel returns to idle. [Elektroda, WojtekRav, post #20109298]

Do I need a service or user code to add a key fob?

A code is required. Installers often hold a service code, and sometimes a user code is left for residents. Ask the administrator or installer which code is active for your building and whether tenant enrollment is enabled. [Elektroda, kkknc, post #20108419]

Is there a universal programming code or standard across intercoms?

No. Programming access depends on the specific system and code level. Some use a user code, others require a higher service code. There is no universal code you can rely on across brands or installations. [Elektroda, kkknc, post #20108469]

How many key fobs can I register to my apartment?

Up to 15 tags can be registered per apartment address on this system. If you try to enroll more, the panel will not accept them. Track your issued tags so you stay within the limit. [Elektroda, WojtekRav, post #20109298]

What if the installer or administrator refuses to add my fob?

Ask the administrator directly for the policy and rationale. Provide a clear photo of the entrance panel and its reader to support your request. This helps confirm the model and whether tenant enrollment is available. [Elektroda, Ircys, post #20108994]

Why might an installer say they can’t program my fob?

They may not have the necessary service codes to access programming mode. Without those codes, they cannot upload new key fobs. Request that the responsible service obtains or resets the correct access credentials. [Elektroda, ta_tar, post #20108287]

How much does it cost if an installer handles the enrollment?

Residents report installers charging PLN 60–90 per added fob. Compare that to the cost of a blank UNIQUE 125 kHz fob if tenant self-enrollment is available. [Elektroda, zbigmen, post #20629696]

Can I enroll key fobs on OptimaSL255RC panels?

Yes, the process can be similar, but tenant editing is factory-blocked by default. The installer must remove that lock before residents can add tags. Ask your service to enable tenant enrollment if permitted. [Elektroda, Ircys, post #20630242]

What errors or edge cases should I expect during enrollment?

If the presented tag is already registered, the panel shows “REFUSAL.” Present the new tag within four seconds after entering your PIN, or the save won’t occur. After the panel returns to rest, test the new tag. [Elektroda, WojtekRav, post #20109298]

Is cloning a neighbor’s tag okay, or should I only enroll new tags?

Follow your building’s policy. Some administrators forbid adding or copying tags without approval. Use the authorized enrollment method with your PIN and a new UNIQUE 125 kHz fob. [Elektroda, air40, post #20108955]
