Can I replace Orange Funbox 6 with my own Archer VR400 router connected to Orange’s external ONT, and if so how do I configure it?

Yes, you can replace Funbox 6 with your own router; Orange allows this for internet access, and the main limitation is with extra services like TV [#20203635] You need PPPoE credentials and VLAN 35 for internet access, then enter the PPPoE login and password in your router’s WAN settings [#20203635][#20203877] The login/password can be obtained by calling Orange support or by logging into My Orange, where you can generate a new connection password and receive it by SMS together with the login [#20203635][#20203877] In the router, set Internet VLAN ID to 35, priority 0, and select 802.1Q TAG [#20203877] If you do not use Orange TV, the setup should work without keeping Funbox in the path [#20203450][#20203635]

    Hello.
A simple puzzle (probably), I would like to know how (and if it is even possible) I can connect my own router (Archer VR400 v3) to an external ONT from Orange instead of Funbox 6. I tried to do it myself, but I failed and I ran out of ideas, I also looked through other threads on this forum and other forums/sites, but I still couldn't find a clear answer.
I am interested in completely replacing Funbox 6 with my own router, so that I only have one router connected, but if that is not possible, I would also be content with connecting my own router to the Funbox, so that the Funbox is a kind of "bridge".
I am asking for help from some kind souls.

And did you get a separate ONY and a separate FB6?
    Did you only get FB6?

Do you also have TV with Orange on this light?
If not, do you plan to have one someday?

I got ONT and funbox 6.
The ONT is separate, it looks like this:
Orange fiber optic 600 MB/s, funbox 6, external ont, own Archer VR400 router

I don’t have TV, only the Internet, I probably won’t have TV, I don’t plan to.

Have you set up login details using PPPoE? And VLAN 35 for internet access?

No, because I don’t know where to get Orange’s login details, as they are apparently downloaded directly from funbox.
I tried using the old ones but they don’t work.

And the speed is 600Mb - unrealistic in my opinion.
Additionally, the router must support VLANs.

I’ve seen this before, so I mean that connecting only your router without a funbox in circulation is definitely impossible?

    Why unrealistic?
As far as I know, this router has gigabit ports and supports VLAN.

TPlink C6v2 also has and dies at a volume of 200Mb
The same TPLink C7 - around 200Mb and death.

    To roll over 600Mb NAT:
    4 cores, 800MHz each,
    2 cores 1.5-2GHz each.

It will have a processor of at least 1 core around 800MHz - the same as C6v2 and C7.

Ok, assuming this is true, still, is it possible to connect just your router or not?

    NO. It`s definitely possible.

There are problems with additional services (mainly TV). The internet itself works without any problems.

You got the deal. The new login and password should be saved there. If you don`t have it (and installers often don`t enter it), please do so here... -> https://www.orange.pl/omnibook/prezentacja-w-nową-moj-orange

When I asked the technician, he told me that now there is no need to enter the login and password, that now they are downloaded directly from the router.
Did he lie or just not tell the whole truth if it is as you write?

Everything is possible. Orange probably has the most liberal policy of the large operators in this matter.

He spoke the truth. But this only applies to FB, which downloads data automatically from the operator. You enter the data into your own router.

    You do this
    1. You call the hotline and ask for PPPoE login details. Alternatively, you log in to the My Orange application and after confirming the SMS, you have a tab with PPPoE data
    2. You configure your router
    a. PPPoE login
    b. PPPoE password
    c. set VLAN to 35
Everything works. Nothing has changed. I configure it myself so often and the last time I did it was 2 weeks ago. Additionally, you can make a full dual stack, but I won`t tell you how to do it because you still have problems with the basics.

Another thing is that you want to replace a really good router, such as FB, with some toys.

Log in to orange.pl, generate a new connection password. You will then receive it via SMS along with your login. You then enter this data in the router's WAN settings. At the same time, you configure the VLAN in the IPTV tab - Internet VLAN ID 35, priority 0, 802.1Q TAG selected. It can't be simpler.

    @Anmitsu
Here`s a little warning for the author - if you connect your own router and anything stops working, you don`t even need to call the operator.

This is one more thing, because I see some people writing that there is no point in replacing Funbox with a "worse" router.
So, assuming that I would succeed, does it make sense to change Funbox 6 to Archer VR400 v3, keeping in mind the quality of the cable connection?

    Let`s count:
    FB6 - cable and wifi 600Mb.
TPLink - via cable and wifi maybe 200Mb.
    I do not know...

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around connecting a personal router, the Archer VR400 v3, to an external ONT provided by Orange, instead of using the Funbox 6. The user seeks to replace the Funbox entirely or use it as a bridge. Responses indicate that it is possible to connect the Archer VR400 by configuring PPPoE login details and setting VLAN 35 for internet access. Users emphasize the need for proper router specifications to handle the 600 MB/s speed, with some cautioning that the Archer VR400 may not perform as well as the Funbox 6. The process involves obtaining login credentials from Orange and configuring the router accordingly.

FAQ

TL;DR: On Orange FTTH, set PPPoE with VLAN 35; "Everything works." Get credentials via My Orange or the hotline. [Elektroda, IC_Current, post #20203635]

Why it matters: This helps Orange fiber users with an external ONT replace Funbox 6 or add their own router quickly.

Quick Facts

Can I replace Funbox 6 with my own router on Orange fiber?

Yes, if you have an external ONT. Internet works fine after proper configuration. TV and additional services can be problematic. You need your PPPoE login and password. “It’s definitely possible.” [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #20203450]

Where do I get my Orange PPPoE login and password?

Log in at orange.pl, then generate a new connection password. You will receive the password and login by SMS. Enter these in your router’s WAN PPPoE settings. [Elektroda, oculars_increasers, post #20203877]

How do I configure my router for Orange FTTH (ONT + router)?

  1. In My Orange (orange.pl), generate a new connection password to receive your login by SMS.
  2. In your router’s WAN, select PPPoE and enter the login and password.
  3. Enable 802.1Q tagging and set Internet VLAN ID 35 with Priority 0, then save. [Elektroda, oculars_increasers, post #20203877]

Do I need to enter credentials if I keep using Funbox 6?

Funbox downloads PPPoE credentials automatically from Orange. Third‑party routers require manual entry of PPPoE login and password. The technician was right about Funbox auto‑provisioning. [Elektroda, IC_Current, post #20203635]

Will Orange TV work if I remove Funbox 6?

Internet service works. However, additional services, especially TV, may stop working or need extra configuration. Keep Funbox if you rely on TV. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #20203450]

Can the Archer VR400 v3 route the full 600 Mb/s?

Expect less than 600 Mb/s. Users report ~200 Mb/s on TP‑Link C6/C7. “To roll over 600Mb NAT: 4 cores 800MHz, or 2 cores 1.5–2GHz.” VR400 is similar class, so 600 Mb/s is unlikely. [Elektroda, KOCUREK1970, post #20203425]

How will Wi‑Fi and wired speeds compare between Funbox 6 and TP‑Link VR400?

Funbox 6 reaches about 600 Mb/s on cable and Wi‑Fi. TP‑Link units like VR400 may be closer to 200 Mb/s. Expect slower performance if you switch. [Elektroda, KOCUREK1970, post #20205032]

What happens with support if I use a third‑party router?

Operator support may decline assistance while your own router is connected. Reconnect Funbox before calling to restore standard support. [Elektroda, KOCUREK1970, post #20203881]

I don’t see PPPoE data—did the installer skip it?

Installers sometimes leave credentials unset. Generate new connection credentials in My Orange to receive login and password by SMS. Then configure your router. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #20203450]

Do I need VLAN tagging support on my router?

Yes. Your router must support 802.1Q VLAN tagging for Internet on Orange. Without VLAN support, the WAN link will not authenticate. [Elektroda, KOCUREK1970, post #20203379]

Can I enable IPv6 (dual stack) on my own router with Orange?

Yes, full dual stack is possible on your own router. Configure PPPoE and VLAN 35 first. Then add IPv6 once the basics work. [Elektroda, IC_Current, post #20203635]
