I'm thinking about building a line impedance stabilization network (LISN) in accordance with CISPR 16-1. If anyone has done this and has tips, tricks, pointers, etc I would greatly appreciate if you shared.

I remember doing this sometime ago. We measured the impedance of the LISN with a VNA and found the impedance was not quite right. We rewired it multiple different times and determined that with careful wiring we able to get the right frequency response. The circuit we used was something like this.

How far off was the impedance in the original tests? And what exactly does careful wiring entail? I'm assuming that you didn't just put things together willy-nilly; did you just use trial and error? i.e., too much inductance, cut the wire shorter, too little, add to it? As I envision it, I just imagine that your tolerances must be quite impressive to have the wiring create that much of an effect.

It ended up that the connections to the inductors, capacitors, and connectors had to be just right. It seemed that the wire with respect to the return path wire was important. I imagine that if we had used a pcb instead of wire harnesses that it would have been easier to control. It was a few years ago, but if you ever need a LISN I recommend trying to build one I learned a lot.
