I need to produce a circuit diagram for a university project. The product I am making it for is a baby monitor which has a microphone to record the child's sleeping pattern during the night then display the data recorded on a computer. It must be connected to the computer via USB. This must also charge the product. However, I am completely new to electronics and have no experience at all. Anyone help?

Tops-down design. Start with a block diagram of your system. Define the signal types and levels (clocks, signals, power) at the interfaces between your blocks, then focus on the detailed design or each block. When you are done with every block you are done with the system. Unless you actually breadboard or build it, in which case you get to find and correct your errors.

Being completely new to electronics you might want a solution that does not involve circuit design. Here are links to three companies that make analog interfaces with USB output. Two of them (perhaps all three) provide data acquisition software that might be suitable for your project.
