950,000 Volts using 2 batteries?

A 950,000 V "stun gun." It uses 2 Lithium batteries. What sort of transformer circuit would be able to boost to this kind of voltage? I'm guessing an oscillator would be in the mix also.

Is this a complicated circuit to create?

950,000 volts is a fantasy. One way to measure very high voltages is to take two electrodes and bring them together until you get a spark. No matter the current the voltage won't go higher once the spark occurs. In fact it will get much lower as the ionized gas is a better conductor. If you put something else, like a body, between the electrodes, the resistance would be lower, so the voltage would be lower.

You'd need electrodes that were many feet apart to get anywhere near 950,000 volts. If you don't believe me look up spark gap voltage measurements or some such on the web.

Also try and buy even 100,000 volt components, such as capacitors. You can't afford then and they're way to big to carry.

You can also find evaluations of real serious tasers such as the police use. They put out less than 10,000 volts.

Which suggests that they either didn't have any technical advisers on the set, or they weren't very good ;)

Or, it was intentional -- to establish that Dr. Emmet Brown was a Science Poser. But, if so, then how did he manage the following:
* Massive guitar amp.
* Tricked out, radio remote controlled DeLorean.
* Safe utilization of plutonium as a power source.
* 19th century ice making machine.
* Implementation of the Flux Capacitor.
* Special fuel to propel a steam locomotive to the time travel threshold speed.
* Fusion powered flying DeLorean upgrade (assuming he did it himself (and judging by the next list item, I suspect he did.
* Time travel locomotive upgrade.

I'm sure I left a lot of this list, anyone...?

If I'd have to guess, then it was probably the actor who was oblivious of what Gigawatts are and the director thought it was kinda fun to leave it like that, or they found out too late to change it.
As to the list: I think there was thomething with mindreading also.

Yes, but I didn't add the mind-reading device because it didn't work, and thus supports the "science poser" premise.
