I am doing M.Tech in Power Electronics and systems from Manipal University. I want to do a project based on solar energy. My project is a solar inverter. I want to know how to remove dominant harmonics and also tell me how to improve my project by introducing new trends. Kindly guide me for the same.
"Harmonics" and other undesirable components can be removed by passive filtering.
I don't know if it's considered a new trend but MPPT, or Maximum Power Point Tracking, is the power conversion technology to use. The inverter places a load on the solar panel such that maximum power is delivered. I believe this consists of a buck-converter with a microprocessor (or a PC) the find the MPP.
Yes, and perhaps engage in some innovative R&D, otherwise, how are you any different than anyone else in the field? Find a way to push the envelope.

There are some very good articles on solar energy and also these days a new set of intergrated circuits that can operate off a few micro amps to give you solar power conversion

http://www.redrok.com/ very informative and interesting site needless to say that most of the power problems with solar panels is how can you move those electrons faster out of the panel I often sit back and play with silly circuits and came to a think about if I could move these faster than the speed of light you would have a source of continuous energy whether Id be correct in that assumption or not I wouldn’t know , it was thought at the time that occurred to me (Might be worth researching Masters degree material )
By the way I built one of these solar trackers your be amazed at how accurate they are and how well they work ( Could have many other uses not just solar )

Endless loop energy ( I’m sure ill get the normal comments of “Your completely Mad “, quite normal , a fear of possibly discovering the unknown ), but then I guess that’s a state of opinion and you would need to define what you consider is normal not that I can ever quite comes to terms with what I see happening as normal anymore
