Dynamo generating power

Hello, sorry for the simple questions

Can a dynamo (generator) work both ways? First it spins clockwise to generate electricity.
after that it spins counter clock wise, will it produce electricty then aswell?

And are there rules for generating electricty? Does it have to be smooth like a windmill, or can it go fast like a bike dynamo, even with high values?

Unfortunately, simple questions can have very complicated answers!

The short answer is that generators can, theoretically, produce electricity in either rotation. In practice, generators are usually designed and built for one rotational direction. Many mechanical issues arise with brushes, etc. if both rotation senses are needed, and power generation may not be optimal. But it is quite possible.

As for "rules for generating electricty," it depends very much on what how that electricity is going to be used, how much power or efficiency is desired, etc. Traditionally, an electrical generator is designed for its load: AC or DC, steady-state or highly variable. Environmental, economic and size issues also must be considered. A whole industry has grown up in recent years around "energy harvesting," which is mostly designed for very intermittent, low power sources connected to storage devices (often batteries or supercapacitors). The stored energy can then be converted to the desired final form as needed, effectively decoupling the load from the source.

Ok thanks, i had an idea for generating energy, ill have to look into this some more.

And i could allways see what it would do with a piston setup, like a car engine, to make it rotate the same way.
