Capacitor replacement

Please Sir, what is the rating of a capacitor that could be used in the absence of a 220nF 160v capacitor in constructing an automatic earth fault indicator?

This equipment is not intended to be used and should not be used or absence of any other letters in the headstage model designation.capacitance neutralization circuit and therefore ±160 V transients on the headstage cases of clamping a 220 nF // 1 MΩ model cell via 1 MΩ microelectrodes.

The recommended replacement capacitor is 220 nF, 160 volts (or higher) of the same dielectric type and tolerance.

Anything different and you will have to understand the circuit to predict what the implications are. You must understand why the circuit designer choose the capacitor he did.

For example, if the function of the capacitor is for bandpass filtering or timing, a different capacitance value will upset the intended circuit operation. Or, if it is a power supply decoupling capacitor a larger capacitance could be (but isn't always) acceptable.
