"I Want" is not a good start when requesting information. What type of home Appliance? What type of control Discrete (ON-OFF) or Analog? What current is this device? What are you controlling it with? What voltage is the Control? There are more factors but this is a start.

Use an RF pic with relay attached or triac 433 mhz reciever and transmitter or simple ir tx tx schematic with a triac Not difficult
