Hello.

From a DC of 15 V source to my battery being charged. I found a difference of 0.4 V across the terminals. What is the current passing through the wires to the battery?

Hello,

This is not enough information to calculate the current. You need to know the resistance of your cable/terminal connection and then you could back out the current using Ohm's law. I=V/R.

However, if you're going to the effort of measuring the resistance of the cable, you might as well just put a DMM in series with the cable and measure the DC current.

The Dmm wire itself has its own variable resistance depending on temperature. 2ndly, i undestand the ohms law but why should there be the drop in voltage across the terminals? If say the voltage from source could be x and destination terminal reads x minus 0.4 i expect the current tobe known. I thought exactly as you suggested. But thinking other ways to find the to my question. Thanks

So if you know the voltage drop (0.4V) and want to solve for the current using Ohm's law you need to know the resistance of the cable causing the drop. i.e.

I=V/R=0.4/(Resistance of Cable/Terminal Connection)

Does this make sense?
