Meaning of RY or RY1 Reference Designation on PCB Schematics?

Can someone tell me what would be refrences on a PCB as RY or RY1?

Hi Jeff. I believe RY is not a reference designator. Its under the component name abbreviations widely used in the industry. RY or RLA stands for Relay. If you want to check the list, I have attached the link below.

RY is commonly used on a PCB as a reference designator for a relay. There are a number of standards and lists but they are seldom followed rigidly. 'K' is probably the most common designator for a relay, but 'RY' is probably more descriptive. Unless you are being held to a certain standard, use whichever you are comfortable with.

The only "standard" I know of is ANSI/IEEE 315-1975 with Clause 22.4 being the "standard list". Although IEEE 315 is no longer ANSI it is still the only viable list of class designation letters. The Europeans, under ISO and IEC have their own system but I don't think you want to go there. The IPC has published a standard, non ANSI, that includes class designation letters in an appendix in which they refer to IEEE 315 and add some other class letters. However, the class letters of parts they add are already covered by class letters of IEEE 315. I guess they can't read or think they are in their own little world.

Also avoid having 90 degree routes.
