What sensors and programs should I use?

Hi! I am trying to figure out what sensors I should put on my device that look so much like a pen. I would like to use a pen as my model because the function is to write a digital note using a pen. But I don't know what sensors I should put on my device for it to recognize the stroke/gesture it will make for A/B/C etc. And these recognized gestures will each correspond to a letter or a number or character. The pen does not necessarily have to touch an electronic pad or any surface. It just activates when a button is pressed to start making the said gesture. Please. I need this for my subject to graduate on time.

How about the software to program the sensor?

I would start with a reference design and evaluation kit. Companies like Analog Devices will sell an eval board, they usually come with drivers and software that will utilize the data from the part so that you can evaluate it.

Hello! As john suggested you can use accelerometer as your sensor. If you do not have any knowledge about accelerometer then you can refer some websites which will brief you about accelerometer. Basically accelerometer will give varying output voltages corresponding to tilt in space. This voltages corresponds to tilt in X Y & Z axis. You can interface this pins with ADC module of Microcontroller & accordingly program it to detect pattern of your interest.
