Electric Fence Technology

I'm not an electrical engineer, but a farmer and I'm trying to find a solution regardin electric fencing. I farm escargot and am looking for a solution to keep them better contained. In small areas, I create an "electric fence" utilizing two parallel wires creating a circuit and connected to a 6V battery. I'm looking for a similar situation for a much larger area, around 1/4 acre. I'd like to utilize a stretch of electric fence tape, but think laying it flat on the ground will short it out or break the circuit. Is there a way to create a perimeter using fence tape or some other electrical solution?

Thanks for the info. I don't need to do more than a regular 6 or 9V battery since a regular fence charger would literally cook the snails. I think I need something similar to a pet "scat mat" scenario as it can be laid on the ground. Thanks for the resource!

If it is the electric field that they are sensitive to, then they don't need to come into contact with live wire. In that case just run insulated wire out on the ground,
