Spectrum Tube Power Supply

Hello,

I was looking for spectrum/ discharge tubes for calibrating argon plasma. Spectrum tubes are available and quite affordable, but the spectrum tube power supply is out of budget. So, I thought of building it on my own

These power supplies operate at 120 V and 60 Hz to proived an output of 1000 V at 10 mA  (10W).

Can anyone suggest to this supply can be designed, or guide me to any articles related to it?

Could be done either with a voltage multiplier from a low voltage(a mains step down transformer), or directly from a mains transformer with an appropriate primary to secondary turns ratio, with appropriate high voltage diodes.
The other option is a switch mode system, where the high voltage is produced during the flyback phase of the switching cycle. They operate with a switching cycle in the tens to hundreds of kHz, depending on the core material of the transformer. Car ignition systems work on this principle.
It needs to produce a much higher voltage initially, probably around 5000V, to get the tube to break down, you will need to check the data sheet for the tubes. Once that happens the resistance drops, and the voltage drops to your 1000V figure at 10mA. The figures you have supplied may not apply to all spectrum tubes. There are likely to be high voltage series resistors in the output to limit the current as well.
This is a high voltage device, capable of doing some damage if you come in contact with it, possibly death, depending on the route you take. For that reason you need to consider carefully how you would built and test such a unit, and how you will enclose it safely, in particular the tube connectors.
Building one is not trivial if you have not done any high voltage work in the past, there are articles on geisler tube and gas laser power supplies around on the internet, but the designs are not necessarily optimum, or suitable for your spectrum tubes,
