I have an AC powered multi tool cutter (power tool) It is 1.6 amps 110V
I want to be able to control the speed and run it very slow, so I connected it to an AC 110v router speed controller that is rated at 15amps. The tool plugs into the speed controller unit and the unit plugs into a 110v wall outlet.
The peoblem is that when I rotate the knob to contol the multi tool speed, it won't turn on until the speed controller knob is turned 1/3 the way up. Then the tools jumps to life and then I can turn the speed controller knob all the way down and it runs there. Why do I have to turn it up to 1/3 of the way to get it to start, and why does it surge on? I did try plugging in an additional speed controller into the mix and this worked better to start the multi tool at a lower speed without the jump. It 'seems that the second speed controller caused more 'resistance'? therefore making the multi tool work better at a lower speed? ? What can I do to make the speed controller work flawlessly at the lowest setting? Is there anything I can buy off the shelf so to speak to solve this problem?
Thank you,
Paul
