How to Interpret Symbols and Specifications on Single Phase Induction Motor Plate?

Hello,Recently, I got my air-conditioner serviced. But they used pressurized jets to clean it up and ruined the fan motor. It started making a lot of noise. I got it replaced and my air-conditioner is back to its quiet self doing its job.Now, the service centre returned the noisy motor back to me. They tell me that it should have shorted long back and it is a miracle it is still working. I want to give it a go. This will be first time for me to get my hands dirty on a single phase induction motor. I am BE Electronics (but that was long back and I am now a software programmer). Later if it works, I have a small project in my mind.
Now after refreshing my knowledge by reading books on the subject and getting a 6uF/450V capacitor when I turned my attention to the motor information plate, some of the things are not very clear to me. Can anyone please help me interpret it:What I already know, is that the symbols RD, BN, WH, BK, YE, BU, YE/GN refer to the colour of the wires coming out of the motor. IP44 is some kind of protection rating.What I need to know is:1. Does 6P means 6 pole motor?2. 1.2 A - is this the start-up current?3. What do the symbols H, M and L stand for in the wiring diagram on the right.?4. What does the square wave symbol above the WH and BK wires mean?Photo of the motor plate is attached. Hi Ashish-I can answer some of your questions.  BTW- to decode the "IP44" ingress rating, look HERE.As for question #1, I'm not sure but I think you could be correct that it's a 6-pole motor.  Can one of our reader confirm this?Question #2- On a small induction motor like this one the current doesn't change much from start to run, so the value is a worst-case run current.#3: H, M, and L are the connections for the three speeds: High, Medium, and Low. #4: It's not really a square wave symbol.  It implies a switch.  In this case it's a thermal protector (symbol just to the left of the "square wave" symbol). The protector will open the circuit if the windings get too hot to avoid a fire. Most of the protectors in small motors like yours are one-time, or "non-resettable" devices, that, once they have opened they will not close again once the temperature drops.I'm glad you didn't just toss the dead motor.  There's much to be learned from failed electrical and electronic parts. I will often do a "post-mortem" analysis of a failed part so I can learn what could have been done differently to avoid future failures.

Update: I was able to run the motor. Small video here.I used a 6A MCB to be safe. I connected white wire and blue (low speed) to the mains. Red and brown had the capacitor. (White-Blue was giving 78 Ohms and Red-Brown - 115 Ohms)There is a lot of paper and clothing around the wires, which is not very safe, will prepare my workbench better .Thanks again for your help.Best wishes,Ashish
