Mulfuctioning multi meter can detect body movement wirelessly

Hello. 
I am not an electrician or engineer of any sort but I have an interesting multi meter. The multi meter is a mastercraft 52-0052-2 and is about 10 years old. One day I believe I overloaded it or something and I get "OL" when I try to use it but here's the interesting thing, it can now detect when I move around it. 
If I set it down and stand near it it will display some arbitrary number and hover around that number, but if I take a step back or any movement really the readout will spike. It does this wirelessly btw.
Does anyone here find this interesting and maybe has an answer as to why and how this is happening?

Hi Evan-I'll bet it does this when it's on the AC voltage setting.  That is an autoranging meter, so in the absence of any input it will go down to the millivolt range.  If you stand near it your body acts like an antenna, picking up radio frequency from local radio stations, or 50 or 60 Hz AC from the local utility lines. These minute voltages get coupled into the meter by capacitive coupling when you are near the probes. -Rick

When your multimeter is set to measure "resistance" or "ohms", it is normal for the display to say "OL" or "infinity" or "OPEN" when the probes are not connected to anything. When the probes are connected together, the reading should be less than one ohm.
