Glad to be here everyone, newb in electroincs. I have a popular intercom for my home. I would like to amplify the 1W, 8 OHM speaker.
( Yes, I know not 8UMM, made you smile )
Issue I have is not sure what power is coming from device and how to step it up?

The best way is to use some shields of Arduino with microphone onboard. Adafruit should have them.

To start with, power is something called the rate of work done. Amplification means the process of increasing a certain physical quantity or parameter of a physical quantity. Now, it's not a good word to say, power can be amplified or stepped up, but to amplify it, we need to increase the capacity of our power generating source or we need some secondary source to add extra power. Try to use a closed-loop amplifier and adjust the gain as you wish.
