Inspired by the EPE Feb 2021 article on the CCS811 VOC MOX pollution sensors I bought one, intending to read it from the Arduino that I have, rather than the article’s Micromite, which I don’t have. Anyone tried this? I found some code for an Arduino on the internet although without the temperature and humidity correction, but that is not that hard to do.
Interesting buyer beware on these pollution sensors as the article warns. The adverts on eBay, AliExpress and Bangood are basically a clone of each other, each claiming full features, but the product delivery varies, and for the one I bought does not match the advert’s picture, with the picture having both chips (CCS811 and HDC1080) but only the VOC one was on the delivered product. I got a refund. The advert for mine even claims 3 chips, with 2 for temperature.
Even the one with both chips does not actually measure CO2 as claimed. The CCS811 just somehow converts VOC levels into an assumed equivalent CO2 level. Don’t understand the logic of that as can have 50% VOC levels and zero CO2 or 50% CO2 and no VOC in air, so a simple lookup of equivalent CO2 does not work for that. Not that either levels are breathable; I have chosen an extreme example.
