How can you design a low-cost smart home system to control your home’s systems?

I would like to design an electrical system to control (as part of a smart home) the lighting, heating, alarm, window blinds, front door, garage and garden (lighting and watering). I would like to use readily available and inexpensive control components.

You could also call in a company, but that’s probably not the point.
Let us know what stage of building your house you’re at – or perhaps you’re not building from scratch, but adding to a house that’s already occupied?
This is quite important because of the building’s wiring, and there’ll be quite a lot of it. I’m also interested in this topic; I can offer assistance with central heating and the associated automation systems.

Thank you for your interest in my project. I am currently at the stage of laying the foundations for the building on my plot, i.e. marking out the foundations, etc. I would like to use the winter to prepare all the necessary documentation, design and installation drawings, and cost estimates – for the central heating, hot water, electrical, control and automation systems (where applicable). In short, creating a smart home – naturally, at a reasonable cost and by dividing the work into stages.

Unfortunately, I’m not an electrician, but I’m currently writing my engineering thesis on smart buildings (a smart flat project...)
The final part of my thesis is the design (plotting the wiring layout onto the flat’s plans) of the flat.
