Hello, I have been struggling with the problem of "jumping" mice for some time :) not literally, because not the mouse itself was jumping, but the cursor on the screen. It moved at random moments, to a random place, often "clicking" on something, often turning the left mouse button into the right one and vice versa.

I tried to use an antivirus program, but none found anything suspicious on my computer.

Often "this thing" was dormant and activated at random moments, it was also hard to track. Today it already drove me crazy, so I started churning processes (Windows XP) one by one and see if there was any improvement. After the "alg" (.exe) process has finished, the problem is over. I started looking for this contraption on the disk and the only ones where this file was: \ windows \ system32 and \ windows \ system32 \ dllcache.

As far as I know, this is a system process responsible for the firewall and internet connection sharing. If a virus replaced this file (in two places), it is extremely malicious - and no antivirus program detects it!

Now I think that I probably already know why Internet connection sharing does not work for me ... I will look for the original and see what size it is.

If someone encountered this, please speak up, maybe we will save someone's nerves that are so torn ... :)

    Regards!

If the mouse is on the cable, I would suspect damage to the mouse (e.g. the cable at the entrance to it). I was like that and I also accidentally jumped the indicator and other things opened up.

You see, I also thought the mouse was crazy and first I took it to the workshop. It is a wireless mouse, so it can be different. But the same thing happened on another usb mouse! And then I got completely stupid. :)

Anyone else have any impressions of "alg.exe"? :)

it was so often with me, and it turned out that it was through the cell phone, it was lying next to the mouse, about 30-60 cm, and when someone called or I got a text message, the mouse was going crazy, the windows opened for me and the cursor was flying like crazy,

I excluded the hardware side. Everything is OK.

I join for the doubters an exec with this "something", it's not a terrible pest, you can fire it up and see if my myca jumps. ;)

@drhej for Windows with SP2, enter what's below in Start / Run / entry
sfc / purgecache - Clears the file cache of Windows File Anti-Virus
then the entry sfc / scannow - Immediately scans all protected system files. That is, restore all files from CD XP + SP2 that were deleted with the previous command. This command requires the insertion of the installation CD.
In this way, you will restore not only the alg.exe that bothers you, but also the rest of the protected files in the original

I ran into a similar "mouse" problem. For me (XP) such an effect was caused by the alarm device connected to the RS 232 port. Everything seems to be in accordance with the Satel diagram, but something wrong. Maybe it's an electric potential problem?

Fun fact! under rs232 I connected the satellite manipulator, turned on the computer, the mouse jumps, the elevator found a new device - a serial mouse. Reboot this time with no rs connected and no serial mouse any - the pointer doesn't go crazy on the screen.

Disabling the serial mouse in the manager helped. However, I have no idea why XP detects a serial mouse on the com port when the cable to the manipulator is connected.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a "jumping" mouse cursor issue experienced by users on Windows XP, where the cursor moves erratically, often clicking on items unintentionally. The original poster identified the alg.exe process as a potential cause, which is associated with firewall and internet connection sharing. Various users contributed their experiences, suggesting hardware issues, interference from nearby devices (like cell phones), and conflicts with other connected devices (such as RS232 peripherals). Solutions proposed include terminating the alg.exe process, running system file checks (sfc /scannow), and checking for hardware malfunctions. Some users reported similar issues on Windows 7, indicating a broader relevance of the problem.
