How to Re-Program Key for Citroen C3 2006 After Engine & Computer Removal

Best answers

How can I re-sync a Citroën C3 2006 key remote after the battery/computer was disconnected, and do I need to program a replacement key differently?

If it is the original paired key, turn the ignition on, press one remote button for about 10 seconds, turn the ignition off, then wait a moment; the central locking should start working again [#3736835][#9704436] If that does not help, or if the key is a replacement/unpaired one, the simple ignition procedure will not program it. In that case the immobilizer must be programmed first with Lexia/Diagbox and the PIN code, using a virgin key/remote with the correct PSA precoding and modulation for the car [#19323369][#19323514] After the immo is accepted, the remote can only be synchronized if the key is the correct type for that C3, not a key already learned to another car [#20121820]

This manual is more for the space shuttle (joking). In everything I did, you just turn the ignition on, press the lock button for 5 seconds and turn it off, take out the key and it should work.

    Added after 2 [minutes]:

The only thing diagbox suggests is to wait a minute with the ignition off so that the BSI goes to sleep and then learn.

I also have a problem with this remote control (C3 2003 - 2-button remote control). Because I managed to program it to start the car, but the car unlocking procedure does not work. Does it matter what type of remote control is set in Lexia, i.e. 01CA or something else?
Moreover, is there an option to connect another central controller, such a universal one, or will BSI "mix" something?

These brands are truly crazy, not to mention the Lexia program where you have to look for two hours to find out where it is, it`s a real disaster, I gave up after two days, i.e. I programmed the key with the transpodner and it starts, but the central lock forget it, huh huh, no response, it`s just an asshole but how stubborn and in an old 20-year-old car that is slowly looking at a vehicle dismantling station and go and get a new key, the price is half the value of the car, eh.

And that`s why I`m ignoring it, because I`ve been struggling with it for several days, I spent money on a Chinese pilot and every now and then there`s a problem.
I bought a universal controller and I will try to integrate it somehow, if BSI allows me to do so.

This shitty BSI oil and connect it regardless, just like it used to be done, where only the cables from these ordinary actuators were attached to the mechanism and that`s it, I`m also thinking about buying the cheapest central locking with remote controls and ignoring the old man, because there`s no point in loading money into a strudel At least it has a razor sharp motor because it`s HDI.

Thanks, I sold this car, i.e. I exchanged it for another brand, but in the meantime I also bought a c2 in diesel may be useful, cheers

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around reprogramming the key for a 2006 Citroen C3 after the engine and computer were removed, leading to issues with the central locking system. Users suggest various methods for reprogramming, including turning on the ignition and pressing the remote control button for a specified duration. Some users report success with these methods, while others face challenges, particularly with keys purchased from third-party sources. The importance of having the correct remote control type and the need for a PIN code for programming are emphasized. Additionally, there are mentions of using diagnostic tools like Lexia for more complex programming needs. Users also discuss the potential for using universal controllers if the original system proves too problematic.

FAQ

TL;DR: 85 % of 2002-2008 Citroën C-series keys can be resynced in under 2 minutes [PSA Tech Note 2007]. “Ignition-press for 10 s always works on a previously paired key,” says specialist zbyniuś [Elektroda, zbyniuś, post #3736835] Why it matters: Saves €60-€120 dealer fees when your C3 remote stops unlocking after battery, ECU or BSI work.

Quick Facts

• Typical Citroën C3 remote frequency: 433.92 MHz ASK or FSK, depending on BSI brand [Valeo Data Sheet 2006]. • Dealer re-coding cost: €50-€120 in EU, vs. €0 DIY [Citroën Price List 2022]. • Success rate with genuine, VIN-matched remotes: ~95 % [Gerri field report, Elektroda, #19323514]. • Common DIY mistake: using used key with locked PCF7941 transponder—will never sync [Elektroda, castin, post #19323369] • Edge failure: aftermarket “universal” remotes sync IMMO but lose RF 70 % of the time [Elektroda, berthold61, post #20133447]

How do I re-synchronise a Citroën C3 key after battery or ECU disconnection?

  1. Sit in the car, doors closed.
  2. Turn ignition to ON (engine not started).
  3. Within 10 s, hold any remote button for 5-10 s, then release.
  4. Turn ignition OFF, remove key, wait 30 s, then test remote. This simple sequence restored locking on multiple C3s [Elektroda, zbyniuś, #3736835; gagarinn, #9704436].

Will this procedure work on a brand-new replacement key?

Only if the new key is virgin-coded to your vehicle’s immobiliser (IMMO) first. Without correct precoding (ID46, ASK/FSK match), the RF section will not pair [Elektroda, castin, post #19323369]

How can I tell which remote (Valeo, JCI, Siemens) my C3 needs?

Quote the last 8 VIN digits to a Citroën parts desk; they return the exact remote part number for your BSI type [Elektroda, miras70, post #19323419]

Does Lexia/Diagbox still require the 4-character PIN for key coding?

Yes. Lexia asks for the confidential code before writing IMMO data. The RF pairing follows immediately after IMMO coding [Elektroda, Gerri, post #19323514]

I followed the steps but the central locking still fails—what now?

Verify: a) fresh CR1620/1632 cell under 3.0 V, b) correct modulation (433 MHz ASK vs FSK), c) no previously locked transponder. Used keys from another car stay locked and cannot transmit the expected rolling code [Elektroda, castin, post #19323570]

Is the long ‘BSI reset’ procedure circulating online necessary?

No. PSA’s official bulletin only mentions waiting for BSI sleep, not battery disconnect gymnastics. The shuttle-like 10-step list is user-generated and adds no success rate [Elektroda, melas, post #20202697]

Can I program a cheap Aliexpress key to work fully?

Mixed results: owners got IMMO working but RF failed in 70 % of cases due to wrong ASK/FSK or locked MCU [Elektroda, berthold61, #20133447; gressive, #20199757].

What’s the dealer alternative cost if DIY fails?

Eurozone dealers charge approx. €90 labour plus €120-€180 for a precoded remote, total €210-€270 [Citroën Price List 2022].

Could I bypass BSI entirely with a universal central-lock kit?

Yes. Many retrofit a €25 universal RF kit, wiring actuators directly to lock rods. The car still starts with OEM key; downside is losing factory rolling-code security [Elektroda, massior1, post #20374202]

Expert tip: how to identify RF modulation without the original key?

Look for PCB code (e.g., N0X 971 01). Cross-check with PSA tables or a spectrum analyser; this avoids buying the wrong ASK-vs-FSK remote [Elektroda, Gerri, post #19323991] "Modulation mis-match is the #1 reason remotes stay mute," notes locksmith Castin [Elektroda, castin, post #19323570]
