Hello, the question as in the topic: can I put the refrigerator in an unheated room ?. The room is something like a pantry, by the porch. Door to inside porch and window. The porch with part of the pantry is not insulated so it is quite cool there. New Samsung RL33EA refrigerator. In winter, when the temperature in the room drops below zero, the refrigerator will be okay?

If you can know why, what effect this could have on the refrigerator. I have heard several conflicting opinions on this. In several places I even read that it is recommended to put the refrigerator in an unheated room, in others, as you write, it is inadvisable ... Who is right ...

Unheated - yes, but in minus temperature - no.
There are porches, pantries where the temperature fluctuates within a few degrees and this is a good solution. For subzero temperatures, the oil in the compressor should be additionally heated, e.g. with a resistance heater or PTC. During start-up, in the case of oil that is thick with cold, it can be different.

I do not fully agree that it is possible in an unheated room.
see carefully in the instruction manual. it may happen that the refrigerator will turn on once or twice a day, so the products will not be too interesting

And this is true - if it does not harm the products in the refrigerator, the temperatures in the freezer will be uninteresting too much hysteresis). All assuming that the compressor is controlled by the temperature of the refrigerator. As for the oil in the compressor, it is also a serious argument - at negative temperatures (and even those below +10) it will not improve the compressor's lifetime and may even cause seizure - the compressor crankcase should be warm "at the bottom".

Oh ... Thanks for the answer. It's good that I haven't connected it yet. Well, now the fridge will land in the kitchen for sure ... by the way - will a microwave installed in the cupboard next to the fridge not cause any negative effects ?? (it looks like the microwave is in the pillar, and there is a free-standing fridge next to the pillar)

Each refrigerator is assigned the so-called climate class in which it will work properly. This is the temperature range of the room for which the manufacturer predicted correct operation.
There are 4 classes of which two can be found in Poland:
    N (moderate): from +16 degrees C to +32 degrees C
SN (extended moderate): from +10 degrees C to +32 degrees C

So you should read the data from the rating plate of the refrigerator and check whether the room will meet the temperature conditions.

Topic summary

The discussion centers around the suitability of placing a Samsung RL33EA refrigerator in an unheated room where temperatures can drop below zero. Responses indicate that while some users have successfully operated refrigerators in unheated spaces, subzero temperatures pose significant risks. Key concerns include the potential freezing of contents, compressor oil thickening, and the overall efficiency of the appliance. It is advised to check the refrigerator's climate class rating, which specifies the optimal operating temperature range. Users recommend avoiding placement in extreme cold to prevent damage and ensure proper functionality.
