    Does anyone know anything about the Nexwell

    It’s been available on the market since April 2008, so it’s relatively new.

    I don’t know anyone who has this sort of alarm system with smart control installed at home.

    What do you think of this system? Is it worth installing it in a newly built house?

    I’m familiar with this company’s system; I’ve even attended one of their training courses, and to be honest, there really isn’t anything to criticise. The system impresses with its flexibility in programming, ease of installation, and you can tell it’s been thoroughly refined. The only thing that gives me pause is the shockingly good value for money, but this is down to the fact that the system is 100% manufactured and engineered in Poland, with significant support from EU funds and the city of Wrocław. In any case, I’d seriously recommend you take a closer look at what this company has to offer. Generally speaking, I’m one of the system’s biggest fans.

    I have a Nexwell system installed at my home (40 km outside Warsaw) with the full range of features:
    1. anti-burglary roller shutters with infrared barriers,
    2. watering (currently only on a schedule, as I haven’t bought a weather sensor yet),
    3. lighting control (indoor and outdoor) with light level sensors (lighting scenes activated when a PIR sensor is triggered in a given room, taking into account the time of day and current light levels),
    4. an alarm system (also integrated with the previously installed Rokonet),
    5. flood detection (water sensors in: the bathroom, kitchen, wardrobe :-) ); I have a washing machine there and in the cellar),
    6. outdoor surveillance – PIR sensors and cameras (upon detection by a specific PIR sensor, the selected monitor(s)the image from the selected camera is displayed and transmitted to the flat in Warsaw via a video recorder with LAN functionality connected to a Linksys WRT54G3G with a GSM module and a static IP address in a private APN),
    7. Control of swimming pool pumps – filtration and water heating,

    It can handle virtually any type of Nexo barrier. However, for window openings fitted with roller blinds, slatted blinds are best, or – in a more advanced form – enclosed barriers, such as those fitted in façade lights.
    As for sensors, the best alarm sensors that can be used to control lighting functions are those with mirror optics.
    Integrating the Nexo system with an alarm system makes no sense, as Nexo is, in fact, a comprehensive alarm system in its own right, and it is only by using the Nexo alarm app that we can fully exploit all the possibilities it offers.
    Control over all sockets in the home provides extensive possibilities for controlling devices, e.g. controlling lights, switching off unnecessary sockets when the system is armed (eliminating the problem of a left-on iron), controlling circulation pumps, and controlling electric radiators. This means you don’t need separate controllers for individual devices,
    Nexo allows for individual calibration of inputs. For example, a light sensor can be a simple photoresistor, and we can set the resistance values generated by light ourselves. If we fit a reed switch to a standard fan, we have a wind speed meter which we can also calibrate ourselves,
    There are many possibilities; sometimes it’s just a question of imagination :D

    I am currently installing the Nexwell system at a client’s premises. The system will control the alarm with GSM notifications (plus control via mobile phone), indoor and outdoor lighting, the external gate and garage doors, as well as the garden watering system across a dozen or so sections. There will be no control of the roller shutters – they are all operated by remote controls from another manufacturer.
    I attended a training course in Wrocław once and tested the system at home for a while.
    The system offers extensive configuration options and is very flexible to use; you just need to let your imagination run wild. What I’ve set up so far is working brilliantly; once I’ve finished the whole thing, I’ll describe the final result.

    Can the end user change the programmed functions themselves, e.g. for a particular switch, or can only the installer do this?

    Hello.
    The pre-programmed functions – such as those for a light switch – can be changed in service mode within the so-called system logic. If the end user gets to grips with this ‘logic’, there’s no problem for them to change it themselves.

    It’s a shame your company wasn’t at the automation trade fair at Wrocław University of Technology a week ago. It’s great to see a Polish company that can compete with manufacturers from Western Europe… (mainly from Germany). Anyway, that was to be expected given the prices they were offering.

    But now to the point: can devices with the M-Bus, ModBus, KNX or MP-Bus protocols implemented communicate with your system?

    Is Tukan a proprietary protocol? ;>

    Please don’t forget that one of Nexo’s main functions is to protect the home. Home automation is its secondary function. So it wouldn’t be very sensible for communication with the system to be open. As for the costs
    (darekas), it’s true that for a large house it adds up to a considerable sum, but it’s also a fact that the same Western-made automation system would cost a much larger sum. What’s more, Western systems don’t have such a well-developed security and fire alarm section. Somehow, things have got a bit twisted in this country of ours, so that everyone looks not at the real value but at the discounts. The most important thing is to get a good discount; 20–30 per cent is often the norm. Do you really think you were that successful in the negotiations? – No, the price is deliberately inflated so that such shenanigans can be pulled off later.

    Of course there are security measures in place. But if the system were to communicate with third-party devices, the encryption would have to be disabled, and the SSWiN system would then be significantly compromised.

    As for price gouging, in this particular case the manufacturer has taken a cautious approach. They’re keen to get the system rolled out. If the prices were inflated, the product wouldn’t be able to compete with others.

    That’s right:-) ) – this is a partial description of my installation, written (I suspect) by a lad from the fitting-out team who was fascinated by the possibilities offered by this system. However, I must warn everyone, as I think that smart home systems will soon be added to the list of banned and addictive substances such as cannabis, heroin, etc. :-) ), it really is addictive.

    For me, it all started after:
    1. installing an underground irrigation system controlled by an ‘Orbit’ controller, for which I didn’t have a remote control – I got a kick out of turning the sprinklers on just as a guest walked into their spray zone, and I’d have to run over to the controller:-) ). I found a replacement and suddenly had the power in my hands:-) )).
    2. The next challenge was starting the swimming pool’s filter pump, which was located in the basement – I purchased and connected an 8-channel radio link from Elmes, which, via relays, allowed me to start the filter pump and a second pump for solar heating of the pool water. I used the remaining 6 channels to control the garden lighting.
    3. I bought some remote-controlled sockets on Allegro to switch on the bedside lamps in the bedroom.

    The problem that arose was that I started to have more and more remote controls lying about, and only I knew which button switched what on or off.

    I started looking for a solution that met my expectations, but every system was missing something – either it didn’t support GSM, or it didn’t have LCD panels (and if it did, there was only one), or there was no option to customise the sensors, or the whole system ran on Windows (with the risk of a virus when connected to the internet), or it used an infrared TV remote control (I was worried that if a neighbour changed the TV channel, my lights would go out:-) ) and just when I’d given up, a colleague at work said he’d heard of a ‘little company’ from Wrocław and a few days later gave me their contact details.

    And so it began:-) )

    The system controls: all sockets, outdoor and indoor lighting with light sensors in every room and outside, the heating, the swimming pool, the garden hot tub, flood sensors in the cellar, kitchen, bathroom and utility room (washing machine) – triggering a specific sensor causes a specific action to be performed), outdoor watering, cameras, microphones (recording only when an armed zone is breached), windows, anti-burglary roller shutters, infrared barriers (on every window), integration with the previously installed RoConet alarm system, heating, air conditioning, heat pump, pool water top-up, etc., etc. Virtually everything runs automatically, but if I want to step in and do something myself, I have 5 LCD panels, a remote control, a phone and a computer at my disposal.

    Everything is very user-friendly and simple to operate. I decide for myself what each switch does, what is displayed on the individual LCDs, what household members have access to and what guests can access, and so on.

    Just so it doesn’t sound too good to be true, I’ll add that my system does have its drawbacks – it can’t light the fire – but I hope the engineers at Nexwell will sort that out sooner or later:-) )

    I can wholeheartedly recommend it with a clear conscience, and as for the cost, I don’t think anyone will regret the money spent on such an investment, as it enhances the comfort of using the house and garden and also brings savings time and energy ensure safety, and – perhaps most importantly – even sceptics are left speechless :-) )))))))

    The barriers are made by ‘Nice’, and their use on windows and doors serves a dual purpose; firstly, if the beam is broken, it triggers an alarm (when the external zone is armed) and secondly – and this is more important to me – it prevents the anti-burglary roller shutter from being lowered on that particular window (I have a cat with epilepsy who sometimes lies down and falls asleep in all sorts of odd places, such as on the windowsill, and the roller shutter could crush him).

    I suspect it’s a Rokoneta, as I had that alarm system fitted previously and the lads from Nexwell connected to it

    No – it’s fine. I’ve also fitted reed switches on every door, which allows Nexo to identify whether I’m entering or leaving a particular room.
    For example:
    I leave the bedroom at night (Nexo detects movement in the bedroom and then a change on the door reed switch for that room, so it knows I’m leaving) so the LEDs in the hall floor light up; then it detects a change on the bathroom door’s reed switch, and a moment later the bathroom PIR sensor is triggered – this is a sign that I’ve entered, so it turns on the light or raises the blind depending on the time of day, whether it’s light or dark outside, and whether I’ve already had a shower that day or not:-) ) – so that nobody can spy on me:-) )

    Rokonet is connected to Nexwell via inputs and outputs, so I can arm the alarm from Nexo and disarm it from the Rokonet keypad, and vice versa. Both systems alert the same security agency, which responds immediately. On 15 August 2008, severe thunderstorms damaged a circuit board in the Rokonet, and I was without an alarm for a few days; that’s why I now feel safer having two systems – if the Nexo fails, there’s the Rokonet, and vice versa:-) )

    I can’t remember which brand they are, but I think the Nexewll installers will be able to answer that question for you, as well as any queries regarding installation. A cable comes out of the sensor with a probe at the end – a short circuit between the rods on the probe triggers a flood alert

    I’ve installed two Insbud.net RS485 electronic thermostats in each room (underfloor heating and convector air conditioning), which are connected to the Nexwell system. The underfloor heating thermostat has a thermometer embedded in the floor, which allows me to set the desired floor temperature.. The convector air conditioning units are logically linked to the windows (relais), so that when a window is opened – for example, in the living room – the convector air conditioning unit is switched off, regardless of whether it is currently cooling or heating the house, whilst the underfloor heating remains unaffected. If the target temperature is reached in all rooms or if windows are opened in them, Nexo sends a request to Altherma to close the two- or three-way valve; otherwise, an error would appear on the boiler indicating a lack of circulation or something similar. As far as I know, Nexwell is working on, or has already developed, its own solution. The underfloor heating is connected to a bus system with solenoid valves purchased from www.podłogowka.pl. Once the desired temperature has been reached in all rooms (information received from the RS485 thermostats), Nexo sends a command to close a specific valve on the Altherma boiler.

    Rokonet is connected to Nexwell via inputs and outputs, which means I can arm the alarm from Nexo and disarm it from the Rokonet keypad, and vice versa. Both systems send alerts to the same security agency, which responds immediately. On 15 August 2008, severe thunderstorms damaged a circuit board in the Rokonet, and I was without an alarm for a few days; that’s why I now feel safer having two systems – if the Nexo fails, there’s the Rokonet, and vice versa:-) )


    How have you set this up in practice? I mean, are all the detectors connected to the Nexo, which in turn connects to the Rokonet, or do you have them split so that some detectors are connected to the Nexo and others to the Rokonet?

    Only the external and internal PIR sensors are connected to the Rokonet, and these are also ‘bridged’ to the Nexo control boxes.

    Yes, they received the description of the communication protocol from Insbud.

    The heat pump is more than enough. I had some finishing work done this winter and the lads from the team set the heating to 25°C and it was fine. Hot water was no problem either – I’ve got a 300-litre tank.

    They work flawlessly, although the floor-standing ones are much quieter than the wall-mounted ones (though they’re also much uglier), and the only problem with cooling is that water condenses on the pipes and valves in the indoor unit (in my case, it’s in a cupboard alongside the washing machine), and after a whole night there’s a small puddle.

    In winter, I spent an average of about 160 PLN a month on electricity for heating the house and hot water.

    If I could recommend anything else to anyone, I’d suggest checking out www.hydrospa.pl for a garden hot tub that can be sunk into the ground, for example on a terrace. I bought a 5-person one, but it easily fits 7 people. Last night – me and two ladies from midnight until the break of dawn, i.e. 5 o’clock. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!

    It’s been available on the market since April 2008, so it’s relatively new.

    I don’t know anyone who has this sort of alarm system with smart controls installed at home.

    What do you think of this system? Is it worth installing it in a newly built house?
