    Hello.
I bought a battery from a friend. It spins nicely... no problems with it.
However, when I measured its voltage (with disconnected terminals), it showed 13.4 - 13.5V. Is this normal???
When the engine is running, the landing speed is 13.8 - 13.9.

This is normal, nothing to worry about.

They write everywhere that it should be 12.6... so what is the NORMAL maximum voltage on a disconnected battery?

You can charge up to 15.5V, but around 12-14V is not abnormal, everything is ok.

In the morning I went out to the car... battery voltage was 12.25 V.

Current consumption at standstill 15-20 mA.

Hello. Reliable measurement results are available when the battery is loaded, e.g. parking lights are on. One decimal place is enough for the voltmeter`s measurement range. Regards.

Unfortunately, the suggestions are incorrect, the resting voltage is 12.5-12.7V depending on the temperature. Charging voltage within the range of 14.4-14.6V without load, with full load it cannot go below 13.9V. Any other values will damage the battery.P

There`s something I don`t understand... I know that the battery voltage should be 12.5-12.7... but should there also be such values in the morning (like today) in frost -5%??? after all, the electrolyte thickens... and therefore the voltage MUST drop a little.

let the battery stand for 5 hours with the terminals disconnected, then it should be within the range of 12.5 - 12.8 if the battery is functional. Your charging is poor.

All voltage measurements both outside and in the car, referring to the factory recommendations, should be carried out at a temperature of +20C. Corrections should be taken for other ambient temperatures and individual components.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion centers around the voltage readings of a car battery, specifically a measurement of 13.4-13.5V when the engine is off and 13.8-13.9V when running. Responses indicate that a resting voltage of 12.5-12.7V is typical for a healthy battery, while charging voltages can range from 14.4-14.6V. It is noted that voltage can vary with temperature, and measurements should ideally be taken at 20°C. Concerns about low voltage readings in cold conditions are addressed, emphasizing that electrolyte thickening can affect performance. Recommendations include allowing the battery to rest for accurate voltage readings and considering ambient temperature effects.
