    Hello
So there were not quite a lot of such topics. However, I want to connect not the matrix but a fully functional laptop to a desktop computer. The point is that at the moment I cannot afford an LCD monitor and I do not have much space, besides, the PC will be a real download room and storage, so I do not need to see it constantly. So is it possible to use the laptop matrix to display the image from the computer? The laptop is a Toshiba A300 1GN. It has USB and HDMI (well, I guess it won't do any good). What would I have to buy, are there any buts and is it even possible? I would like to add that I would like the laptop to work on its own afterwards :P

    Hello.
And you have not thought about connecting a laptop with a desktop computer in a simple network and providing a "stationary" as a remote so-called remote Desktop? (if you have Windows it is possible)

The idea of a remote desktop if you can't see it permanently is pretty good. You will have VNC turned on on the stationary machine all the time, or it will start when the system starts, but if you turn on the computer, you will have to enter the password to log in to the user (without a monitor it can be difficult), because in order to be able to connect to VNC it is required password.

So I think DVI -> HDMI is the best solution.

The question is does it work? I am at the stage of buying the last two components, i.e. the motherboard and the processor, and I would prefer to know if I need a monitor or not ;) Remote desktop very nice, but small but - the PC will be 1m from the laptop and I can not imagine a situation when I need to look at the computer and I do not have a laptop ready, also a front idea but little needed. Especially that somehow I have to install the system first and then start it, also "problems" again. Doesn't it need two different systems for VNC? I have Win7 on the notebook and I wanted the same on the PC

If you connect everything correctly, I think it will work.

As for remote, I wrote to you that you will have a problem with this password when logging in, and you need to set it to connect via a remote desktop.

VNC does not need other systems, it is probably the case that if there are 2 the same, it is better.

You can try with DVI-> HDMI cable. DVI for the stationary machine, HDMI for the laptop and 99% will flicker

I have not read such nonsense ... In this way, the only thing you can do is damage the equipment. I suggest reading a bit about I / O ports before giving another brilliant advice.

The HDMI on a laptop is an output port, not an input.

    Cool...

So now I have a question, can I contact you later about the VNC? Because I have no idea about it. Maybe you have some tests of this software or typical guides on how to assume it and how it works

VNC is very easy to use.

Then you install on both computers, run VNC server on one desktop computer, VNC viever on laptop. You connect using the IP address. Create a password on the user on the computer in advance, as connection may not be possible without the password.

I have full functionality? I mean, is there something I can't do? For example, installing, removing, etc. As I understand it, without a monitor, I would have to enter "blindly" :D In fact, this is not a problem there except that I will have to buy a keyboard :P

Oh, guest ... you enter the password on the computer with the monitor to gain access to this computer without the monitor .... then you can do absolutely anything.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of using a Toshiba A300 1GN laptop as a monitor for a desktop PC. The user seeks a solution due to space constraints and budget limitations for a dedicated LCD monitor. Suggestions include utilizing remote desktop software like VNC, which allows access to the desktop PC from the laptop over a network. However, concerns are raised about the need for a monitor during initial setup and password entry for remote access. A critical point is made that the HDMI port on the laptop is an output only, making direct connection for display purposes impossible. The conversation highlights the importance of having a temporary monitor for setup and the potential for full functionality through remote access once configured.
