As in the title, a friend called me that the lights on his board are flashing, the brake does not release and generally he cannot go anywhere with the car. I advised him to try to move off with the seat belts fastened, disconnect the negative clamp, press the button repeatedly. It turns out that when starting manually, he hears the sound of the motors, but they do not release (maybe one is broken). As I am quite far away from it (60 km) and I would like to help him (I have a VCDS), I would like to find out what can be done, what tools to take to get this car moving and possibly reach the workshop without a tow truck. (if the clamp proves to be guilty). I also acknowledge that it will probably not be possible without dismantling the clamp. (unless my reasoning is completely wrong and something else is the cause of this failure)
    Any suggestions?

Regards and thanks in advance for your help

If you have a VCDS, try to control the motors as for replacing the pads, and then the pistons should normally be pressed (as in a regular front caliper). If the motors retract and the pistons are not, you have a reason. If, on the other hand, one of them does not retract, look at the cables, maybe something has rubbed / tarnished. You can move this clamp back using the "out-of-body" method, i.e. by supplying voltage and mass from the outside. But it is up to you. As for the keys, the yoke clamp itself is screwed on an 8mm screw with a hexagonal head 6 or 7, or a hexagonal head 13.

Don de Leon has never seen such a pinch in a streak, but your story is fun.

Strange thing. Because when it comes to attaching the clamp to the yoke, I was shooting. But you release the parking brake activation mechanism to replace the pads with the tester, push the pistons and put the pads on, then set the piston to adjust? Passat B6?

Have you ever done this? Are you theorizing yourself?

But I am not sure if the Basic Settings will work when some irreversible error is active, but I have already thought about the solution with VCDS brake release - but I'm afraid that it will probably only be possible to remove the piston "temporarily" - question - how to do it safely?

    Call a mechanic.

What does this statement bring? You have a service - as I understand, since this solution was introduced, you knew how to do it - ok - omnibus - not my business. Sometimes I repair cars, but if the internet gives me the opportunity to learn from other people's mistakes, why should I learn from my own? I will somehow manage to undress it without your help, I will ***** buy it back, but I will know for the future. Consider one thing - are the 3103 posts you have loaded with just help? no questions? If so, this forum is not for you.

I know. For now, the matter is standing still. I don't have time, my friend does not, and the car is standing. Probably someone else will do it to him, but I will ask what and how, eventually someone will benefit.

Two cables and a piece of battery and you can do it too.

Yeah, but today everyone wants to connect a laptop and "reset" and it's already fixed, but getting dirty under the car is a shame, let the car stop ...
There is no time and money for a tow truck ...

And they want to, is it wrong? - now with small basics and the help of the Internet, anyone who has an interface to their car can do a lot. Most, however, depends on the interpretation of the data that the driver gives us on the tray - here the most important thing is experience. Tech is moving forward, car self-diagnosis too, you know, sometimes you have to get your hands dirty, although not everyone wants to ;)
And for me the car can stand for a half a year - not mine, after all, nobody will make anyone happy. Regards, and the topic I think can be left alone until I find out what is going on in the Belt

Friend report - the electronics of one of the terminals fell (as I suspected, one was not released). Replacing the caliper helped. Interestingly, the electronics fell because the casing was cracked, and the second motor's casing is said to be not in the best condition anymore (it should go to gluing). Also the owners of B6stek - maybe it's worth taking a look at the condition of their terminals? - Regards

    Moderated By ociz:

There is no electronics there. These clamps are as simple as j ... A simple motor and gear. The gearbox corrodes due to the fact that the plastic casing breaks, and it breaks because the corrosive aluminum bursts it.

Sometimes reading all these replies makes me want to cry. First of all, to retract the pistons, unscrew the handbrake motors, retract manually, you need allen keys for the motor and for retracting the piston. All the magic. Secondly, if the motors are working, you can hear them and the brake is applied, i.e. the pistons are baked (here the replacement of the caliper with the pistons or the regeneration of the pistons itself. A set in the intercar 48 PLN each, a new piston, sealants) thirdly, if someone has no idea about this type of electronics, let them It doesn't take much because later there are errors of this type in the execution of the repair. From time to time errors and again replacement of pistons or motors. Go to someone who will do it right for you, especially brake settings, it's not difficult with the right equipment

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around an issue with the electronic handbrake of a Volkswagen Passat B6, where the brake remains stuck and warning lights are flashing. The user seeks advice on diagnosing and potentially resolving the issue using VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System). Suggestions include checking the motors and cables, manually retracting the pistons, and the possibility of a faulty caliper. A follow-up reveals that the problem was due to a failure in the electronics of one terminal, which was resolved by replacing the caliper. Participants emphasize the importance of proper diagnosis and caution against DIY repairs without adequate knowledge, highlighting the need for experience in handling such electronic systems.
