    Hello!

My computer has been shutting down for about two weeks, everything was fine earlier (I've had it since August 2009), games are still running (eg The Witcher 2 on high). But it suddenly started shutting down after various periods of time. The first time I opened it, I cleaned it, it looked ok, it worked fine for a few days and it turned off again. Then it worked fine for two days and went out again. And from a week it is different, once it works all day, and the next time it goes out, I will turn it on, it will go off for 2 hours, it will go out again, then a dozen or so minutes, then again within an hour (differently).
For example, today it worked for 3 hours, then it went out, then after 20 minutes it went out, I undressed it, only connected the power supply, it first went out after 1 minute, then immediately after a few seconds. I plugged everything back in and it went out after an hour.

    Specification:

Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250
    Card: Radeon 4850 512 Mb
    Motherboard: Gigabyte M52L-S3P
    RAM: DDR 2x 2048
    Disk: 640 GB 7200 fps
    450 W power adapter
Housing: TRACER XENO (one fan on the back of the housing)

What could be causing the computer to shut down?
    Is the power supply defective?
The choke is overheating? (solidified paste?)

I do not want to blindly buy a new power supply. Can you check the temperature of components with some good programs? (and throw screenshots)

    Please help!

Replace the power supply and perform the tests. Check with the power supply voltage meter.
+ 5V Everest shows beyond ATX standard.

the computer will turn off like this in a few cases:
    1.power supply
    2. temperature
    3. capacitors

Which in my opinion option 1 is the most likely.
Option 2. Check if the CPU fan is tight, maybe one leg is broken and not sticking. How did you clean from dust, took off the fan? Did you change the paste under the fan?

Both options are likely, from which (in my opinion and experience) I would start with the power supply, recently out of 10 computers that I have repaired 8 started working after changing the power supply.

Change the paste on prock, graphics, etc. and try to blow the power supply with compressed air;]

This morning I immediately started cleaning my computer and I took it apart.
I cleaned what I can. After plugging everything back in
The computer turns on, the screen does not light up, you can hear it resetting and going off again, after a few such shutdowns it goes out right after turning on.

    What now :/ ?

Not only is 5V out of the ATX standard, I wouldn't look at Everest.
But it is suspicious and measure it as soon as possible.

Ok now myk is like this:

I have an old computer, I unscrewed the power supply from it, and connected to mine, instead of the Tracker
Ok, the computer does not go out, but it starts, the image on the monitor does not turn on and after a dozen or so seconds it resets and so on.
Thought the drive wasn't working, but plugged the power adapter back into the old computer and plugged the drive into it too.
Fortunately, the drive works, no problem.

Only now what is happening with my main computer, ok power supply to the trash, but why is it not still starting? : /

Which power adapter did you connect? Brand and model?

Additional power supply connected to the graphic board? ATX4pin CPU power supply connected?

Photo of the power supply (it is weaker, but it is working on this old computer)

Photo of the motherboard without the power supply and disk

And a photo of these power tips, because they were connected to each other with their counterparts from the power supply (two go from the graphics card) and do they have to be connected somehow or not?

This old computer is unused anyway, only in an emergency
So it is possible that the computer will not turn on because its power supply is too weak?

Ok, I connected the card and power supply from the old computer and the com is working without a problem.

So now I am asking for a power supply for my computer. Some reasonable price, some specific brands and is 450 W enough?

Ask the question what to buy in the appropriate department.

Assuming the topic, enter the computer configuration and the budget you have at your disposal.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a computer that has been experiencing random shutdowns. The user suspects the power supply as the primary issue, given the age of the computer (August 2009) and the symptoms described. Various potential causes are identified, including power supply failure, overheating due to inadequate cooling, and faulty capacitors. Users suggest checking the power supply voltage, cleaning the CPU and graphics card, and ensuring proper connections. After testing with an old power supply, the user confirms that the original power supply is faulty. Recommendations for a new power supply include ensuring it has sufficient wattage (at least 450W) and seeking reliable brands. The user successfully resolves the issue by borrowing a power supply from a friend.
