Excel, what keyboard shortcut can I enter into edit formula field?
I know cell edit is F2. However, the field of the formula is much larger and editing there can be much more convenient. But how to get there without using the mouse ...?

F2. And before that, in the "advanced" options, uncheck the "allow editing directly on cells". It applies to Excel 2010 ... and in 2007 probably the same.

Nice, a step forward, but not entirely satisfactory solution.
Since there are 2 fields to edit on the screen (cell and formula field), it would be nice to have a choice which I want to use. The more so because with the mouse in my hand I do not have to go through the advanced options ...

This option does this to you for the entire worksheet - only then you are editing cells in the formula bar ONLY ...

There is no shortcut to do what you want ad hoc ... but here

there is a macro ;-) )) that you can hook up to what you want ...

I would like to be well understood. Sitting at Excel, I mainly work with the keyboard. I don't like mice. It is inconvenient to catch a rodent once in a while and click in the formula bar, or, after Moran's advice, right in the cell. I would like to know a shortcut that allows you to choose according to your needs. eg F2 and Alt + F2 (already taken for editing a comment). Perhaps such an abbreviation does not exist. But it would be weird. After all, I have access to every other field. If there was a reason why editing in a formula box was "disabled", it would also be disabled for the mouse.

As I wrote "there is no built-in shortcut key to take you to the Formula bar - you must use the mouse.", Therefore the only way out is a macro ...

    I don't understand why "it's not weird".
Equally, bold fonts could only be accessed by clicking the icon, and there would be no Ctrl + B.
The fact that there is a function that can be accessed with a mouse and that it is not possible to use a keyboard is strange.

But this is not about banter.

Thank you very much for your posts and interesting discussion. Until the next one :)

Topic summary

The discussion centers around the lack of a keyboard shortcut in Excel to directly edit the formula bar without using the mouse. While F2 allows editing of the cell, users express a desire for a shortcut to switch to the formula bar for convenience. Suggestions include unchecking the "allow editing directly on cells" option in Excel's advanced settings, but this affects the entire worksheet. Users note that there is no built-in shortcut for the formula bar, and the only alternative is to use a macro. The conversation highlights the frustration of relying on mouse actions for tasks that could ideally be performed via keyboard shortcuts.
