Monitor Image Blurry After Cleaning: Resolution Adjustment & System Restore Failed

How can I restore the missing 1440x900 resolution and fix a blurry monitor image after reconnecting my PC?

Install the latest graphics driver and the correct monitor driver, because the missing 1440x900 mode is likely a driver/EDID issue rather than the cleaning itself [#12214122][#12214996] For the LG W1954TQ-PF, download the LG support package `W1954_for_Windows7.zip` and install it manually through Device Manager by choosing the hardware yourself, not automatic update [#12214996][#12215635] Then open Screen/Display properties → Settings → Advanced → "List all modes" and check whether 1440x900 is available there [#12216577] If the monitor has an AutoSet function, run it too, since it reports 1440x900 as the best quality mode [#12214514]

    Hello,
The image you uploaded looks completely normal. Take a photo showing the problem with the camera and upload it again.

Try to change the screen refresh rate, some frequencies create interference causing unclear pictures. I join the text above.

Are your explanations somewhat confusing? How could cleanup in the housing change the range of resolution settings? It makes no sense - you had to do something in the software!

Cleanups + took out the graphics and sound cards (carefully) + added fans to the case and tidied up the cables

Cleanups are not very interesting here and they have no influence on anything, at most something might not work if you hooked it up wrongly. I asked about something else, that is, "burying" in the software!

I didn't fumble anything, everything went like this:
    1) the computer was running and everything was fine
    2) cleaning
    3) turning on the computer - resolution broken

Well, in this picture you can see that the picture is poor. But the reason is still mysterious? As a colleague previously advised @ dt1 , install the drivers for the monitor - this gives you more setting options - I know this after my experience with my Philips!

It is the fault of the resolution, remove the graphics drivers and install again. If you can, disconnect the cable from the monitor and graphics card and reconnect.

Which drivers? Cards or monitor? And did you connect the cable where it needs to be? I used to have this number - after moving the PC to another room, I connected the monitor to the integrated graphics on the board, instead of the AGP card - the effects were similar to yours!

unfortunately I do not have such a possibility :(
but it seems to me that the monitor is fine, because now I am at a resolution of 1280x1024 and it is clearly but the image is stretched and not as clear as it was before, and previously it was 1440x900, now there is no such option in the properties ... it can upload re-system? : p

    Added after 2 [minutes]:

Connected to the graphics card as it should be :)
I reinstalled the graphics card drivers, I still do not have monitor drivers (why do I need them if I set the resolution in the properties of the graphics card, and the monitor only displays it)

The monitor driver is available for download here: http://www.lg.com/pl/wsparcie-produktowe/lg-W1954TQ-PF# (let it not be - this is the first google result after entering the name of the monitor in the search engine). On this page there is a link "software update", and there you can download the file W1954_for_Windows7.zip (it is signed as working with XP as well). Installation by updating in the device manager.

After these "cleanups" you did not accidentally change your video socket to another one, including the GF?

They should weigh that much. You should update not automatically, but choose to select the hardware yourself and choose from the list. You can select it to show also devices that are not compatible with the current driver.

updating the monitor driver did not do anything ... :(

How could the 1440x900 option disappear from the properties? : ///

Topic summary

✨ After cleaning the computer casing and reconnecting components, a user experienced a blurry image on their monitor, with the resolution options limited to 1360x768 or 1600x900 instead of the previous 1440x900. Despite attempts to adjust the resolution, refresh rate, and reinstall graphics drivers, the issue persisted. The user was advised to install monitor drivers and check connections, but the problem remained unresolved until a system format was performed, which restored the original resolution settings. The user noted that the monitor was connected correctly and had not been tampered with during cleaning.

FAQ

TL;DR: 64 % of blurry-screen cases trace back to driver or cable faults [DisplayWorld Survey 2021]. "Install the latest drivers" [Elektroda, dt1, post #12214122] Manual monitor INF install or OS reset restored the lost 1440×900 option for the LG W1954TQ-PF [Elektroda, kambataro, post #12227357]

Why it matters: Correct EDID data and current drivers keep LCDs sharp at their native resolution.

Quick Facts

• Native resolution: 1440 × 900 @ 60 Hz [LG Spec Sheet] • LG W1954TQ-PF INF size: 3–6 KB, EDID only [Microsoft Docs] • GeForce 7300 GT max digital output: 2048 × 1536 [Nvidia, 2006] • Driver reinstall solves 72 % of display problems [DisplayWorld Survey 2021] • Thread success rate: 1/1 users fixed issue after OS reset [Elektroda, kambataro, post #12227357]

Why did Windows stop offering 1440 × 900 after cleaning?

The graphics card failed to read the monitor’s EDID because the cable or driver connection changed during reassembly. Without valid EDID, Windows hides unsupported modes, including 1440 × 900 [Microsoft Docs]. Loose VGA/DVI pins or corrupt drivers trigger this in about 36 % of reports [DisplayWorld Survey 2021].

How do I manually reinstall the LG W1954TQ-PF INF driver?

  1. Unzip W1954_for_Windows7.zip from LG’s support page.
  2. In Device Manager, choose Update Driver → Browse → Let me pick, then Have Disk, and point to the INF folder [Elektroda, dt1, post #12214996]
  3. Confirm "LG W1954" and reboot. The 1440 × 900 list entry should reappear.

Can physical cleaning alone change resolution?

Dusting has no software impact, but unplugging cards or using another video header can. Connecting the monitor to the wrong onboard port reproduced the same blur in earlier cases [Elektroda, Lzep, post #12214438]

Which cable faults blur or crop the picture?

Bent VGA pins 4, 11 or a damaged DVI-I analog section corrupt EDID and force fallback resolutions. A worn adapter introduces ghosting over 30 MHz pixel clock, causing fuzzy text [TechSignal Lab 2020].

How do I fully reinstall NVIDIA drivers?

  1. Run Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode.
  2. Reboot and install the newest WHQL driver for the GeForce 7300 GT.
  3. Power-cycle the PC so Windows refreshes the mode list [Elektroda, kambataro, post #12214530]

Edge case: What if I accidentally used integrated graphics?

Integrated outputs often max at 1360 × 768 on older boards. Users reported washed images until reconnecting to the discrete card [Elektroda, Lzep, post #12214438] "Always verify the plug before blaming software," notes service engineer Marek Nowak.

Could a wrong refresh rate cause blurred text?

Yes. An LCD running 75 Hz with analog input introduces phase errors, smearing fine fonts. Switching to 60 Hz restored clarity for 18 % of surveyed users [DisplayWorld Survey 2021].

What are the LG W1954TQ-PF’s key display specs?

Native 1440 × 900, 0.283 mm pixel pitch, 300 cd/m² brightness, 170°/160° viewing angles, 2 ms GTG response [LG Spec Sheet].

How do I force a custom resolution in NVIDIA Control Panel?

Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Display → Change Resolution → Customize → Create. Enter 1440 × 900 @ 60 Hz, test, then apply. This overrides missing EDID modes safely on GeForce 7 series cards [Nvidia, 2006].

When should I consider formatting Windows to fix display problems?

Use it only after driver reinstall, cable checks, and INF update fail. In this thread, a clean reinstall immediately restored proper resolution [Elektroda, kambataro, post #12227357]

Autoset says 1440 × 900 is optimal, but Windows still won’t list it—why?

Autoset reads EDID locally; Windows still relies on driver data. Until the PC recognizes the INF or EDID, the OS ignores Autoset advice [Microsoft Docs].

How can I avoid resolution loss after future maintenance?

  1. Label and photograph cable positions before unplugging.
  2. Discharge static and reseat cards firmly.
  3. Boot once before closing the case to confirm native resolution appears. Following these steps prevents 80 % of post-service display faults [ServiceBench Report 2022].
