2 days ago I returned to England, where I work with the Polsat digital set (Thompson tuner, Samsung converter, standard dish, 16 meters cable) and I cannot find a Hotbird or even Astra in any way. The only point to which I can refer is the satellite dish next to it (2 meters) from which the English Sky Digital is receiving (I do not even know from which satellite).
I don't know what to do, there are ways. I called the polsat service, but they spread their hands because in Poland they can help, but not in England.
I spent 2 days and nothing. I used to set up the Visions alone and thought it would be easy this time too. In Poland there are always friends who will help, unfortunately not here and I doubt that I would find someone who would help me. Everyone here has Sky Digital only.
    Please help.

In your situation, the only solution that will save time is to connect an analog tuner with a programmed TV Polonia program to the antenna and only with such a tuner you will find HB but before that you need to educate yourself a bit on the Internet about the location of satellites in the sky. Program and satellite parameters can be found on LyngSat. and good luck.

Sky Digital is broadcast from the Astra satellite at 28.2E, so to receive HotBird 13E the antenna must be turned a dozen or so degrees to the west in relation to the above-mentioned Astra position. Additionally, it will also be necessary to slightly change the angle of the elevation.

Hello! I do it like this ... I connect to the antenna whatever SAT tuner (PEACE 200 in my case, analog), I set the antenna (you know ... top bottom left right :) on max signal ... so without drops !!! it takes me about 5 minutes :) then I do a digital tune and everything works !!! In case of problems, write to GG 2756694. Regards

    I found!!!
Thank you very much for your responses. They helped me a lot :) )

I have one more little problem. I receive everything flawlessly, only the image gets some strange punctures from another television. I have already disconnected regular TV from the TV set, but it does not help.
Maybe it is the fault of the RGB cable (added to the set, probably not the best quality) or the proximity of the Sky Digital dish (about 2 meters).
If someone knows something, please reply.

Hi. You haven't written what type of TV you have. Quite often there is a poor separation of the AV input from the TV tuner. You say that you have disconnected the TV antenna and it's still the same. Try to use a regular cable on high and set the tuner on the TV as a regular channel. You can also use the simplest cable the euro because the one on the equipment can do various tricks and sometimes it even blocks the functions on the TV. Try the first one and if then the same breaks occur, the tuner is in the bubble. Regards.

Hello ... I have the same problem ... with the astra catching without a problem while the hotbird is "elusive" ... what to do if you do not have an analog tuner at your disposal ...
I have already tried the original polsat and the one from sky digital ...
Which one is more effective ... (one must throw ...)
Is it possible to set it on a compass? What is the difference in distance between the Astra and a Hotbir in practice?
And are all polsat decoders such garbage ..? (I have a thomson)

    Hello SirBagin
If you found Astra, you can say that you are at "home".
First, go to the tuner options and select "restore factory settings" (then the tuner will be configured for Hotbird).
Now, if you used both dishes and they work, then I suggest using Polsat's dishes (if you check the Hotbird range map, it turns out that England has the strongest signal) and the original canopy is sufficient.
Then, if you have the dish set to Astra, change the angle of inclination (a little up, not too much).
Now, after changing the tilt, turn the bowls counterclockwise to the Astre (literally 4.5 cm).
Turn on some channel, for me it was COUNTDOWN channel number 61 (it is better to set the tuner using the channel because the signal indicator is not very accurate).
Then slowly turn the bowls gently until it works (the program should be perfect).
    It really isn't hard.
I also have a Thompson tuner and at the moment everything is fine.
    Best regards.
    Sebastian.

Hello Permiso ... Thanks for the advice ...
I was a bit lucky because by chance someone came to see someone who was taking care of sky ... (he had the equipment with him) .. I asked him to set it up and ... it took him two minutes (and I was 20 ? :) ).
Now I have another problem with the package ..
I described it in a separate topic ... maybe not necessary, but I am a beginner electrodeist and I do not really know what is suitable for a new topic, what not ...

I recently had a problem with the antenna alignment, I was doing it probably 100 times, I thought that it would hit me ... And the whole problem is that on the digital tuner it is difficult to do because the signal level jumps up after a while and when the level is sufficiently high. so I propose to take an analog tuner and set it to the hotbird so that it does not snow as much as possible - the whole thing can max 10 minutes and connect the digital tuner and everything will be ok. On the digital tuner I thought that I would lay an egg, I could not hit it and that's it.

Forgive me for connecting to the topic, but I have a question if you can receive Polish uncoded channels on the Sky Digital tuner after switching the dish to HotBird (my friend is in London and has only this digital tuner and the platter is set to Astre 28.2E), if so what I have enter in the settings?
    best regards
    Thanks in advance.

you do not enter anything in the satellite settings, you change from astra to HB and download the current list from the satellite.

    Hello!!!
and what is the vertical angle of the antenna in England, more precisely in Oxford, I have 40 degrees and nothing flashes and I have a nrecorder on the old antenna from the sky is 45 degrees or should I set it identically?

    Hello.
    29 °
But you will measure this angle with an old antenna (parabolic). If new (offset), then only on the scale on the mount, if any. And then the antenna stand must be perfectly vertical for the measurement to be reliable.
You have all the settings in the attachment.

Hello, I have the same problem (no hotbird in England) but in my case the matter is complicated because the owner of the house where I live does not allow the installation of the antenna on the wall of the building, so I installed the antenna inside the window. Polish tuner not to use it. Therefore, I have a question; do I have a chance to find a hotbird in my case? I was able to catch astra and several channels from the Sky platform.Bede very grateful for advice. Thanks

I think that with a bit of luck you will have no problems with setting up and receiving the CP correctly. The rule of thumb is that the larger the canopy, the better the reception (actually, the greater the reserve for rainy English weather). Unfortunately, I cannot find the location of your city. But knowing the coordinates, use http://satlex.net/pl/azel_calc-params.html?sa...country_code=uk&diam_w=75&diam_h=80&diam_h=80 and with problems with finding the south from the compass.

As for my problem, I am completely green in this matter, so ... recently I moved into a new house and to my surprise I noticed that I have a connection to a sat antenna of unknown origin. After examinations, it turned out that 4 cables leave the converter, 2 go to the neighbor and 2 to me - I have just returned from PL with a decoder of platinum digits. and after connecting both cables, it shows me that it was skyb that I chose astre and hb, despite the green marking of the signal that there is a signal, I did not find polsat programs. you can ask for an explanation how to stupid what and how to do ??

The antenna is oriented to a different satellite.
The tuner is stupid and gets the signal but does not know from what satellite; so it shows that the signal is ok.

Or maybe try to mount a strabismus on the canopy, it only depends on how far the satellite is currently positioned from HB.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the challenges of receiving the Hotbird satellite signal in England using a Polsat digital set with a Thompson tuner and Samsung converter. The user initially struggled to find the Hotbird or Astra satellites despite having the necessary equipment, including a standard dish and a 16-meter cable. Various responses provided solutions, including using an analog tuner to locate the satellite, adjusting the dish's angle, and ensuring proper alignment with the satellites. Users shared tips on using signal strength indicators and adjusting the dish's position relative to known satellites. The conversation also touched on issues with signal interference and the importance of using quality cables. Ultimately, the user successfully located the Hotbird signal but encountered image quality issues, prompting further inquiries about potential causes.
