    Hello,
in the mower I have a loose belt for the rear wheel drive clutch. I have no idea how to keep him stretched. A small, strong spring fell out from under the cover, but nowhere can I see a place where it could be hooked and tightened.

Enclosed is a view of a small wheel on the axis of the motor and the clutch with the take-up wheel. There are no other "burrs" apart from the aforementioned spring.

Hello, I marked you in the photo with a red color where you should attach this spring. One half goes into the housing and the other half goes into the red color.

Logically, it should be as you wrote, the spring pulling the clutch "up" in the indicated place will stretch the belt - but in the housing there is no attachment point for the other end of the spring, no eyelets etc. Maybe some element should be there ??

there is no fastening in the housing. I did as in the photo below. I wonder if this was the original mount. The belt is kind of tight.

What exactly is a spring? What is its dimension? I lost one, unfortunately. :(

    Hello.
I have the same drive on a mower with a Tucumesha engine. The spring, from what I remember, is about 3 cm long and as strong as possible (1 cm thick), but do not think that you will find one because it depends on where it is attached. The drives on many mowers are the same, but the spring mounts are different. My friend has the same spring mount as shown in the photo and I already have a longer spring and it is attached at the top through a rectangular hole in the housing.

Ok, then I will clarify, it's about the Viking 448TX.

Hello. And try to remove the old one and buy a slightly smaller one, but a new one, so that it is not taken out and then see what will happen. And on this belt, what you have, the drive does not work well, i.e. it slips ????

Belt loose, spring in the grass, not to be found. You need a new one.

and for me everything is in place, only I have a loose rope from the drive, and the drive is working all the time and it cannot be disconnected with the lever while mowing.
All in all, you can mow and the drive works all the time, but in the long run it is tiring, especially when you have to turn, etc.
I thought that the line broke or fell, but everything is fine only with this metal box, where the line is all loose ...
I got into it, and I still don't know

Thanks in advance for the info,
    kisses

    Hello
Mteusz, if you have a drive as shown in the first photo of the author of the topic, then under the gear drive wheel there is a lever to which the drive engagement rod is connected. On the other side of this lever, a spring is engaged, which is to switch off the drive after the lever is released. This is the drive in the Honda Iza. In my case, the spring broke and the lever did not return and the drive was working all the time. If you have a similar drive design, this could be your fault.

    Hello.
Maybe someone here will help me. I have a problem with the drive in the Makita PLM 4618 mower. The question is how should they be, or how should the spring / springs be installed or installed?
    Thank you.
    Goodbye.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around maintaining the V-belt tension for a rear wheel drive clutch on a motorized mower. A user reported a loose belt and a small spring that had fallen out, seeking guidance on how to reattach it. Responses indicated that the spring should connect one end to the mower housing and the other to the drive gear to maintain belt tension. However, the user noted a lack of attachment points in the housing. Various users shared insights about the spring's dimensions and attachment methods, with some mentioning specific mower models like the Viking 448TX and a Tucumesha engine. Additional issues related to drive engagement and spring functionality were also discussed.
