Hello, since I recently had to open the engine cover after the cover opening cable accidentally disconnected, I decided to present the way I managed to do it, maybe it will be useful to someone. The tools needed are a small mirror, a flashlight, and a stiff wire of about 20 cm with a hook at the end.
    1. So, first, we remove the right air intake grille. As in the photo below:

First, we pull the lower part of the grille and then detach the top.
    2. Since the cover pin and the lock are normally invisible when looking through the grille, to see them we can use a mirror that we mount quite stably as in the photo below (I used a clip)

    3. To see the flap lock, shine the flashlight into the mirror at the appropriate angle and then the reflected light will allow us to see the lock elements in the mirror. I used a fairly strong and focused beam of light.

The visible pin is this element of the cover

Now you will need a second person to press the engine cover from above, this will allow you to use less force to pull the lock. After pressing the flap, highlighting the lock with a flashlight, we try to hook the lock or spring on the side of the lock with the hook at the end of the wire and pull. When the flap is pressed, it should be possible to pull the lock without any problems, then we release the flap and the lock is open.

Based on the above method, I did the same. My Scenic is pre-facelift, I don`t think there are any changes.

    1. Remove the left and right grill covers.
    2. Loosen the spring with your fingers a little bit (you need small hands). First, you need to target the cone-shaped pin, and then the spring. Now we hold our right hand on the spring.
    3. Insert a long screwdriver from the left grill (mine is 15 cm plus the handle) and guide it to the spring. Now working with two hands is irreplaceable.
    4. The left hand pushes the latch which is held by a spring.

The attached photo shows what the lock looks like upside down. You have to push between the pin and the spring, there is a latch there. Since the left hand arm is quite large, there is no need for much force or pressing the mask.

    Good luck
