    Hello,

I have the following problem. Some time ago I bought a Dell U2412M monitor, it has a Display port connector which is crucial here. Currently, I have a monitor connected via VGA, which definitely does not satisfy me. I would like to connect the monitor to a laptop using the HDMI included in it and here there is a problem because I can not do it at all. I have purchased two adapters. The lower one I just tried to connect to the computer via DVI but it failed as well as connecting it to the laptop using the upper adapter. Do you see any other possibilities?

I tried to change the screen resolution settings, it popped up that it cannot connect to the projector.

Are you sure that this adapter will work?
Often, these types of cables / adapters only work in one direction (the laptop has a DP monitor has HDMI).
Of course, they rarely write about it in the specification :)

Dude, I have no problem with reading comprehension. My point is to confirm whether this adapter is an adapter or just an adapter.
The page says "Allows you to connect devices with HDMI to DisplayPort."
which can be understood differently. Both the monitor and the laptop are devices.
With this post, I wanted to warn those who are looking for the first better adapter, so I asked if the one provided here works 100% or if it is just a link from the Internet.

Col. from what the Dell service provides and you can read it must be an ACTIVE converter, but with hdmi to display_port.

Its price starts from around 100 PLN. .. and more.

In addition, Dell has HDCP, but I know which ver. ? HDCP has a laptop, the one you give the signal from must have priority over the one receiving the signal.
In addition, the 16:10 / 1920x1200 monitor format causes image distortion ?!
Is there any other scaling option?

How do you understand these two terms?

If I would like to connect a laptop with dp to a monitor with any other output, e.g. VGA, I need a DP -> VGA adapter (same as DP-> HDMI).
If, on the other hand, I would like to transfer the signal from VGA-DP (I do not know if it is possible, I only theorize), then an ordinary adapter will not work. Need some adapter (device, or whatever you call it).

There is no such thing as an "adapter". This is a non-professional term for a converter cub adapter.
VGA is an analog signal and Display Port uses a digital signal, so you can't do that.

You're right - I could have confused these concepts.
I read that the display port is compatible with every other input. I think that if such an adapter / adapter did not work, it would not be put up for auctions.

In any case, the whole thing is that everything works with the simplest cables / adapters, if you have a DP output and something else in the input. If, however, you have DP at the input, unfortunately the matter becomes more complicated.
I heard about something like ++ DP, which supposedly works with HDMI both ways, but I don't know if this monitor has it and I don't know how to check it too much.

    EDIT:
To clarify the topic. I have a similar monitor - p2414h. The solution to the presented problem is the dvi-d - hdmi cable (necessarily dvi-d!). It doesn't transmit sound (I think) BUT these monitors don't have speakers anyway, so it doesn't make sense. It works and looks nice :)

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around connecting a Dell U2412M monitor, which features a DisplayPort, to a laptop using HDMI. The user has attempted to use two different adapters without success. Responses highlight the importance of using an active adapter for HDMI to DisplayPort connections, as many adapters only work in one direction. It is noted that VGA is an analog signal while DisplayPort is digital, complicating direct connections. Suggestions include using a DVI-D to HDMI cable, which is confirmed to work for similar monitors, although it does not transmit audio. The conversation also touches on potential issues with HDCP compatibility and scaling options for the monitor's resolution.
