The problem is that after replacing the pads on the rear wheels, the brake pedal became very soft, i.e. you need to press it much deeper than before the replacement. Is it possible that there is air in the brake system ???
I will add that it is Passat B4 94r. with ABS system.
Many thanks for any advice !!

Yes, either you have too little fluid or there is air, in my opinion, there is no other reason!

The reason may be the thresholds on the disc, if they are, until the pad does not reach the disc, you will have a deeper and rubber pedal for some time. If it was good and there is fluid before replacement, see what discs you have.

    Hello
Bleed the entire system to prevent air from airing. You can combine it with replacing the fluid with a new one, it will not hurt, use DOT3 brake fluid. If that does not help, then a colleague am2310 wrote what could be the cause, in which case they need to be rolled over or replaced.

Hello - and how did you exchange these pads?
if you just pressed the pistons inside (there was no problem with that), it should not cause air to air, unless you let go of the drill holes to push the pistons in, you probably have air, if you haven't unscrewed the vents, look carefully from the inside of the rim if you don't sweat (wet) tight pistons.

    Hello
the blocks must be placed on the target
you have to do some 600 to 1000 km to make everything ok
in what condition are the shields?
    Greetings

If you pressed the pistons with force with rotation, nothing could get airborne without unscrewing the air vent, the pads will simply fit into the disc (there are probably thresholds on it), brake calmly and they will arrange themselves

Almost everything has already been written by my colleagues, but I will add that after removing the clamp (if you did it yourself), you should disassemble the clamp and press a special lubricant under these 2 rubber bands of the casing so that the clamp does not rub and "floats" on the dial after installation, the idea is that both linings They rubbed simultaneously. One more metal ends of the new linings, where they stick together with the clamp, should be lubricated with the so-called copper grease to prevent galling of the pads in the clamp. that's it, best regards

Someone advised you to replace the brake fluid with DOT 3, but forget about it because this car is supposed to be DOT 4. I have a car like you and I had symptoms like you and very slowly after pressing the pedal, the calipers returned and the brakes warmed. It turned out that something is in the brake hoses, rubber at the rear wheels. After replacement, everything is ok.

Thanks to everyone, after driving 300 km the situation starts to slowly improve. I guess you will have to think about regenerating the shields or replacing them.

Don't roll the disc, it will be thrown away, better buy a new one.

Topic summary

After replacing the rear brake pads on a 1994 Passat B4 with an ABS system, the brake pedal became soft, requiring deeper pressure to engage. Possible causes include air in the brake system, insufficient brake fluid, or issues with the brake discs. Recommendations include bleeding the brake system to remove air, checking the condition of the brake discs, and ensuring proper lubrication of the caliper components. It was noted that the vehicle should use DOT 4 brake fluid instead of DOT 3. After driving approximately 300 km, the situation showed signs of improvement, suggesting that the pads may need time to bed in or that the discs might require regeneration or replacement.
