Are Green Cell replacement batteries for a MacBook worth buying?

Green Cell batteries are a budget replacement that some users found acceptable, but the thread shows inconsistent quality, so they are more of a gamble than a safe equivalent to the original. Some people reported capacities very close to the declared value and decent runtime, including a MacBook battery that measured 5269 mAh versus 5200 mAh declared and still had 5121 mAh left after three months [#14044579] Others praised the seller’s warranty handling, saying there is a 12-month warranty, a 30-day no-reason return, and replacement if capacity drops below 70% within a year [#14390263][#15360364] On the negative side, several users reported batteries dying after 2–3 months, losing 20–30% capacity quickly, or shutting the laptop off under load even when the battery still showed charge [#14369266][#16412815][#16655240] One MacBook owner also reported the battery swelling enough to lift the casing after about 15 months [#17121261] The practical takeaway is to buy Green Cell only if you accept lower long-term reliability for the lower price and are comfortable relying on warranty support; otherwise, a better replacement or the original is safer [#14390263][#16655240]

    Hello,

I am thinking about replacing the battery in my Macbook 13 "MA254 laptop. There is nothing to look at in the Apple store, because the price is cosmic. I found a Green Cell battery on the Internet and wanted to ask for opinions about them?

Friends recommended it, but I'm afraid of some substitutes anyway ...

I have several laptops at home and at the moment they all run on Green Cell batteries. I found that I prefer to spend a penny to keep the laptop working for a few more months instead of paying several times as much for the original battery, and here's a surprise - the battery is almost 3 years old and the FCC shows 5520 (DC was 6600), also the capacity drop for such a time really small.

I don't know how it relates to the Mac (Li-Po batteries), but Samsung, HP and Asus on lithium-ion batteries work very well.

In general, I recommend Green Cells and the store where they sell them (apparently it's a private label).

I am also considering changing the battery. Currently, my Samsung R580 is tied to a power supply. Without it, it doesn't want to work :) . I also saw Green Cell batteries on the auction site. Of the approximately 24,000 comments, almost all are positive. Several neutrals and one negative. Overall, it was mostly about understated capacities. In general, the offer seems OK to me. However, it is difficult to find reliable opinions on the web. There aren't many answers on this topic either. If I decide to buy it, I will describe my first impressions. Anyone bought? PLN 58 is not PLN 250 :) .

I haven't looked here for ages, but I just got an e-mail notification with a reply to my topic :)

Let me tell you this, I decided to order this battery. The declared value for my Mac is 5200, I didn't believe it, but it came and it had 5269 mAh! A big plus. After three months, I have 81 cycles and it shows me that 5121 mAh is left, which is actually a negligible loss after so many charges.

In general, I don't like when someone does such an advertisement, but I am happy with their services and I also bought a battery for Acer 5742Z, enlarged version. It was supposed to have a capacity of 6600 mAh, BatteryMon showed 6542 - acceptable, I think. I also personally recommend Green Cell batteries, because from what I have read, they are one of the few who have such a service that they do not make problems with the warranty and do not overstate the capacity.

It is worth giving it a few zlotys more than the cheapest on Allegro for good service.

I am generally a supporter of originals. My brother-in-law has already "smashed" 3 power supplies and I still have my original. However, the difference in the price of the battery is considerable. My original has 4400mAh and I wonder if I should buy a replacement with this capacity or a better enlarged one, if this capacity turns out to be lower than declared.

the original ones are much more expensive those on the Allegro are as originals for PLN 200 are warehouse loungers (and it is known that li-ion do not like aging) warehouse returns or after regeneration, 100% original and "fresh" batteries cost PLN 280-350 everything depends Sony's manufacturer is even more expensive, I tested these zets (I have a dell studio 1555 after 2 years of use, still 1.5h holds) are great, the same was confirmed by friends who are in the industry, they have even better 5200mah capacity, it all depends if someone wants to have 6ms batteries will buy something cheap if someone wants to have peace of mind again for 2-3 years I recommend zeta-notebooks I have never been disappointed the same friends say, movano also have a good opinion but I have not tested

I have had contact with two replacements for a green cell. The first capacity showed OK, it also worked quite correctly (temporarily), the problem appeared when the laptop was loaded heavily, i.e. it turned on a game or some larger file for compression, or an OCCT test at a charge level below 50%, the laptop would immediately die as if it was someone took out the live battery. The old one, even though she kept 1/4 of that time, was able to walk correctly in every task.
In the second battery, the capacity dropped by about 20-30% during the first month of use, unfortunately it was not covered by warranty replacement: /
    So I can't say it's worth it.

regeneration is not the same battery that opens in the electronics will not be as it should, but you are right, it all depends on who expects if only there is a battery and it works for some time, buy something cheap if a laptop that is still going to work a little will choose something good

And with normal use, what did it look like? Note that there may have been two cheesy plays. You can return up to 1 msc on Allegri Green Cell for no reason.

With minimal power consumption, the battery dropped to around zero, but when the computer did something, it was only up to 50%, below it was out immediately.

I noticed that there are other quinole-substitutes, different names of these companies, someone had experience with them too?

And green cell is not a regular Chinese diet by chance?
In my case, I also bought a regenerated one, but on sanyo cells and the other samsung, these go like the originals already ... about 1.5 years.

Hello. I am also in the process of buying an Asus laptop battery. My A32-K53 battery works for max 5 minutes after disconnecting the power, even though it is charged to 100%. For 2 years, when I have a laptop, it worked maybe 30-40 times on the battery alone, but most of the time it was connected to the mains with the battery inserted and it probably killed her. Unfortunately, the original battery costs PLN 240, so I thought about a replacement.
On the Allegro I see two sellers who sell mainly laptop batteries. They offer two batteries:
    - Green cell 4400mAh battery - green cell
    - X-Batt 4400mAh battery unfortunately I do not know if the manufacturer of the cells is the battery manufacturer.

The cost of the battery PLN 79 and 12 months warranty.
Maybe some of you bought batteries from one of these companies and can comment on their quality?

BatteryInfoView and BatteryMon show this information.

I have a T61p and because I travel a lot by train, I have 2 batteries. The original 9-cell bought with a laptop + a replacement that I just lost after 14 months of use. Usually, while driving, I discharge both batteries, and I have such journeys on average 1.5 times a week. The original one is already 3 years old and keeps quite quite. I think it has retained over 50% of its capacity. She survived two substitutes. It can be said that if instead of the first replacement, I had bought an original, non-aging one, I would have gone to zero :) oh yes, I'm sitting around looking for forums and I'm wondering whether to buy a new replacement or a new laptop ;)

Before that, I had a Lenovo N100 3000 and had a total of 4 batteries there. All original. The first one with a 6-cell laptop died after a few months and they replaced it with a new one under warranty. It was a whole defective series of these batteries, and they even replaced them for free with those that had not yet died. The third battery was 9 cell and held very well, but after two years its capacity had dropped more than my current T61p. Then I bought a new 9-cell for it, also original, but I didn't use it for a long time because I had an opportunity to buy the current T61p so the N100 was sold to a friend. As far as I know, she is not satisfied with these batteries.

Also to sum up from my experience with batteries: a good replacement has a price that is adequate to the quality. Ie 3x cheaper for 3x shorter life time (I wonder what our natural environment says about it). However, buying the original, unfortunately, does not guarantee quality.

Thinkpads T and W series, and their components, including batteries, are a completely different league than the Lenovo market masses, sometimes also having "thinkpad" in the name, which gives wrong associations. I currently have a 9-cell 9-cell battery in the T410 that still holds 3.5-4 hours with 575 charge cycles. I will sooner force myself to buy the original or change the computer if necessary than to buy cheap replacements, but nothing heralds its end.

A Li-Ion battery charged under the cap ages faster, especially at high temperatures, discharging to zero (zero is conventional because zero is death, it is a so-called deep discharge) is not recommended too often, but from time to time it is even recommended to equalize the voltage on the cells. Leaving the battery deeply discharged to lie is also very quick degradation. If it already has a battery, it should be between 70% and 30% charged, preferably in a cool environment.
Some computers allow you to configure when and how much the battery is to be charged, this way you can work under voltage without charging it, unless the level reaches the value previously set at which the charging is to start. Similarly, you can set an upper limit, i.e. how many percent is to be charged when it starts. In this way, you can connect and disconnect the computer during the day and 100x without even a single charge, the cycles do not run away, the battery ages more slowly due to the lack of a constant charge to 100%, etc.

You have just 2 years of using the J1KND (Dell 15R) replacement.
They write that there are samsung cells inside and I think this is how it works.
Over 700 cycles and still works up to 2 hours. Just like the original.
For those interested, the company is mobilepower.

Massacre! I have been building a drone and going through the electrode for some time but having seen this post I had to create an account. I deal with SEO and I haven't seen such a bad word of mouth marketing. You can see that a sponsored post. And it is enough to read the opinions about this company on the Internet - more negatives than positives. Samsung cells? I am asking you ... Better not to sink yourself like this.

expert, keep building this drone and not a pseudo-advertising horseradish. If you search the internet for a bit more, you will come to the conclusion that I am a consumer, not a trader. You have to be able to search.

FAQ

TL;DR: In forum tests, Green Cell laptop packs show <2 % warranty returns and “after one year, capacity should be at least 80 %” [Elektroda, Michał ŚwiatBaterii, post #15251397] Most users report 12-18 months of useful life; heavy-load or swelling are the main failure modes.

Why it matters: picking the right battery can cut costs by 70 % yet still meet daily-use runtimes.

Quick Facts

• Warranty: 12 months; swap if capacity drops below 70 % [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #14390263] • Real-world measured capacity on arrival: 90–102 % of label [Elektroda, SoftWind, post #14044579] • Typical lifespan: 300–500 charge cycles (≈1–2 years) [Elektroda, piskor328, #13758031; 3echo, #17204706]. • Seller-stated failure rate: 2 % [Elektroda, Michał ŚwiatBaterii, post #15251397] • OEM price premium: 3–5× (PLN 250 vs PLN 58) [Elektroda, przeeemek, post #14044537]

Why do some users see sudden shutdowns below 50 % charge?

Budget controllers may misreport remaining energy under high CPU or GPU load, triggering an instant cut-off [Elektroda, gregorianin, post #14369266] Heavy drain exposes cell voltage sag sooner than light browsing.

What warranty terms apply to Green Cell packs?

Standard cover lasts 12 months. If capacity drops below 70 % anytime in that period, the seller issues a free replacement; customers also have 30 days to return without reason on Allegro [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #14390263]

Is battery regeneration a better option than buying a replacement?

Regeneration swaps old cells for fresh branded ones and resets electronics. Cost is only slightly above a cheap replacement yet can restore OEM-level runtime [Elektroda, sneak, post #15545251] However, improper resealing voids safety certifications.

How should I store and use a lithium-ion battery to maximise life?

Keep charge between 30 % and 70 % and avoid full heat-soaked 100 % states [Elektroda, gregorianin, post #14500177] Lab data shows Li-ion loses ~20 % capacity per year when held at 100 % and 25 °C [BatteryUniversity, 2023].

Should I remove the battery when running on AC power?

If your laptop lets you cap charge at 60–80 %, leave it installed. Otherwise, remove and store it at ≈50 % if the machine will stay plugged in for weeks [Elektroda, gregorianin, post #14500177]

How do I calibrate a laptop battery?

  1. Charge to 100 %, let it rest 2 hours.
  2. Discharge to the OS critical level (≈3 %), then switch off.
  3. Recharge uninterrupted to 100 %. Perform quarterly; it realigns the fuel-gauge, not the chemistry [Elektroda, 3echo, post #17253886]

What risks does a swollen battery pose?

Gas-swelling can lift the chassis, deform trackpads, or ignite if punctured. One MacBook user saw a 3 cm bulge 15 months after installation [Elektroda, PatiWawa, post #17121261] Replace immediately and recycle under e-waste rules.

Can intense gaming shorten battery life?

Yes. High current spikes raise internal temperature, accelerating cell wear and triggering premature cut-offs in budget packs [Elektroda, gregorianin, post #14369266] Limiting frame rate or using AC power preserves cycles.

How do I check actual battery capacity in Windows?

Free tools such as BatteryMon or BatteryInfoView show design and full-charge capacity. Compare both values; if below 70 % within warranty, file a claim [Elektroda, hudydg, post #16056859]
