Which power tools should an electrician buy for site work if he wants a high-end, durable setup: Milwaukee, Makita, Bosch or another brand, especially for hammer drills, SDS-max hammers, grinders and cordless drivers?

Milwaukee is a good buy for drill/drivers and heavier hammer drills, but the thread recommends mixing brands rather than buying everything from one maker [#14450556][#14450745][#14486697] A Milwaukee PLH 32 QEX/SDS-max class hammer was described as durable and worth the price, though one user advises checking the new tool’s grease and sealing because his used unit had too little grease and worn gears [#14494021] Makita is repeatedly presented as the better-priced alternative and is preferred by some users for angle grinders, while Milwaukee grinders get less clear support; one reply also says Bosch grinders are comfortable, but Makita’s ergonomics were better in older comparisons [#14450556][#14451639][#14455538][#14456663] For accessories, the thread recommends buying bits, drills and crowns from brands like Hawera, Abraboro, Metabo and Quatro instead of paying extra for a tool-brand stamp [#14450745] One strong caution is that the Milwaukee WCE65 wall chaser reportedly failed quickly and was refused warranty repair, so it is not recommended [#15845320] Hilti is also judged too expensive here, with one user saying that for the same money you could buy two good Makita hammers [#14453428]

I know from experience that a table drill would also be useful (I did it in halls, switching stations, and a table drill is a miracle when you have to drill dozens of glands or other constructions. The work is very precise and convenient). Once you have a decent drill, a good drill stand will be a solid and much cheaper alternative :)

    Hello
I advise against buying the Milwaukee WCE65 2300W 230mm wall chaser worse in material than the disposable Chinese from the market. I used it for about an hour cutting a groove in siporex and the angular gear fell apart. there was also a problem with unscrewing the discs, first the socket of the allen screw at the clamp was unscrewed. then when I unscrewed the clamping rings with a crook wrench, dents appeared as if they were made of unhardened steel. The most interesting thing is that the service refused to repair it under warranty, because the device was supposedly overloaded. I will judge them for now. I'll let you know what comes of it. in any case, I advise against buying Milwaukee equipment, if only because of the way the service works and the crappy material used for production

Who has the M18FPD2-0X with a 5Ah battery? I have some doubts about the performance of these batteries. How much time do you work, e.g. drilling in steel, in concrete with an impact and driving screws, e.g. in plasterboard.
I'm asking because I bought this set about 2 months ago and it's a tragedy! Aku, after being fully charged, lose one line within one week (storage at about 5-10 degrees Celsius and we also work in such conditions). Efficiency when drilling in steel fi 10 about 15 minutes, on the battery it drops to 2 lines and if I press harder it turns off! Hammer drilling in brick approx. 45 min. Replacing about 300 sheet metal screws required the use of three batteries, this is a joke. Do you have the same? :shocked!:

    Hello,

Which M18 screwdriver is worth recommending? The choice is large and I have read that some more complex models may have a problem with electronics? Do you have any experience - which impact drivers are more prone to failure?

Power not important - all of them are strong enough for what I want to do. Must have a brushless motor. It will work interchangeably with a screwdriver.

FAQ

TL;DR: Milwaukee’s M18 FPD2 hammer-drill pushes 135 Nm torque [Milwaukee, 2023]; “Very durable equipment” says user andrzej lukaszewicz [Elektroda, 14450745] Solid choice if you maintain it and pair batteries wisely. Why it matters: Right-sized pro tools boost productivity and slash downtime.

Quick Facts

• Milwaukee M18 FPD2 torque: 135 Nm; weight: 2.2 kg w/ 5 Ah pack [Milwaukee, 2023] • Typical 2-3 kg SDS-Plus hammer impact energy: 2.5–3.4 J [Bosch, 2022] • Bosch GWS 22-230 LVI grinder vibration cut 50 % vs. base model [Bosch, 2021] • Recommended cordless battery storage: 20–50 % charge, 10–25 °C [IEC 61960] • Average pro-tool warranty: 3 years parts & labour (online registration required) [Makita, 2023]

Are Milwaukee power tools worth the price for electricians?

Users report long life and strong performance. One owner ran a 28 V driver daily for 2.5 years, replacing only the brush holder (≈€12) [Elektroda, andrzej lukaszewicz, post #14450745] High torque (135 Nm) on the M18 FPD2 rivals mains drills [Milwaukee, 2023]. Price premiums offset by fewer repairs and faster work.

Where are genuine Milwaukee tools made?

Milwaukee is an American brand; many EU-market drills and hammers are assembled in Germany (EAN prefix 400) [Elektroda, 14473935] Some ranges come from USA, PRC or Vietnam. Check the rating plate: country of origin must appear under EU Regulation 1169/2011.

How can I spot a counterfeit Milwaukee?

  1. Scan the EAN; 400-series codes point to EU plants. 2. Verify serial online at Milwaukee’s eService. 3. Look for etched rather than printed QR codes. Missing country, blurry logos or non-matching manuals flag fakes. Milwaukee warns that gray import units lose warranty coverage [Milwaukee, 2023].

Which 2–3 kg SDS-Plus hammer suits daily conduit chasing?

Milwaukee PH 26 X (2.4 J) wins on weight (2.8 kg) and optional dust shroud [Elektroda, 14452603] Makita HR2470 and Bosch GBH 2-26 offer similar impact but lack Milwaukee’s variable clutch. Expect 18 mm RDX bit speed ≈ 20 s through C30 concrete [Bosch, 2022].

Is Hilti still better than Makita or Milwaukee chiselling hammers?

Thread users note Hilti prices double competitors yet durability no longer exceeds them [Elektroda, 14453428] Two mid-range Makita HM871C units cost the same as one Hilti TE-500 and keep you working if one fails—key for small crews.

Which angle grinders balance comfort and power?

Bosch GWS 22-230 LVI (2.2 kW) offers anti-vibration handles that lower hand-arm exposure by 50 % [Bosch, 2021]. For 125 mm class, Makita GA5030 (700 W) has slimmer 57 mm body, praised for grip [Elektroda, 14456663] Milwaukee AGV 13-125X adds dust shroud option—useful when a wall chaser is absent.

Any known Milwaukee failures I should watch for?

One user’s WCE65 wall chaser’s angular gear failed after 1 hour in lightweight block; warranty was denied for “overload” [Elektroda, 15845320] Ensure discs stay within 65 mm depth and avoid stall cuts to protect gears.

Why do my M18 5 Ah batteries drain quickly in cold?

Li-ion loses ~30 % capacity at 5 °C [IEC 61960]. A forum member saw one bar drop within a week and shutdown under load [Elektroda, 18376461] Store packs indoors (15 °C) at 40 % charge and warm them for 10 minutes before heavy drilling.

Which Milwaukee M18 impact driver is the most reliable?

Simpler brushless models (Gen II M18BLID2) skip smart torque electronics that can fail in damp sites. Users link most faults to complex FUEL PCBs [Elektroda, 19411622] Choose IPM ≤ 4,300 bpm and verify rubber seals around trigger when buying.

Are Makita SDS accessories good value?

Makita SDS-Plus bits are made in China yet perform on par with Bosch at 20 % lower cost [Elektroda, 14450745] For heavy SDS-Max, consider Hawera variable-pitch drills: 15 % faster and less jamming in rebar tests [Hawera, 2022].

How do I grease a new Milwaukee PLH 32 rotary hammer?

  1. Remove rear cover; pull motor from gear housing. 2. Pack bevel gear with Milwaukee PN 49-08-4290 grease until teeth fully coated (≈15 g). 3. Re-seal using high-temp gasket maker to keep dust out [Elektroda, 14494021] Repeat every 250 h.

Is a drill stand a cost-effective substitute for a bench drill?

Yes. Pair your PD2E drill with the Milwaukee BST 717 stand; it offers 43 mm collar, 60 mm stroke and ±45° tilt for under €120 [Milwaukee, 2023]. Users rank Wolfcraft less rigid and Bosch DP-500 pricier without tilt [Elektroda, 14511685]
